If you have been waiting for a sexy and gorgeous Italian sports car to own, then wait no further as the Alfa Romeo 4C simply meets all those characteristics. Scheduled to make its first debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show this March, the 2014 4C sports coupe is a transition from the concept seen back in 2011, but has yet to lose any of its seductive charms that had captured the hearts of many, which includes us too.
To those who are familiar with Alfa Romeo’s labeling, the 4C moniker is easily interpreted as “Four Cylinders”, which this babe houses not in front of the car, but is mounted in the middle. The 1.75-liter turbocharged engine lifted from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta pushes the 4C with 232-horsepower, which might be able to give it a 0-100 time of around 4.5 seconds and a limited top speed of 250km/h.
And helping to reach such figures are a number of features like the new dual-clutch transmission offering either full automatic or manual modes. The engine is also equipped with direct-injection technology called Fiat Group’s MultiAir variable valve timing and a new “scavenging” system, claimed to reduce turbo lag.
But the fancy stuffs are not only limited to the power plant itself, as the 4C comes with an all-carbon fiber monocoque, with only the front and rear frames being made out of aluminum. This gives the 4C an impressive power-to-weight ratio of less than 4kg/horsepower.
The aluminum suspension frames feature double-wishbone and MacPherson strut designs. And like most sports coupe of today, the 4C comes with a number of driving modes which dubbed the ‘DNA’ selector, allowing the driver to choose from Dynamic, Natural and All Weather modes. And to top it off, a special Race mode is also added.
Production will take place at a Maserati plant in Modena, Italy, and it is said that only 2500 4Cs will be built for worldwide distribution. Prices are estimated to be in the USD 45,000 (RM 140,000) range, and a convertible version is also in line which will probably surface somewhere next year.
