LAUNCH: Proton Preve (From RM59,990 to RM72,990 OTR)!

The much anticipated Proton Prevé (pronounced Pray-vay) has just been launched, offering a feast of goodies for the mass market that comes bundled in three variants!

According to Proton, the Prevé utilizes 94% of locally sourced components and shares the same platform as the Exora, although it was designed, engineered and built with the collaboration of several international parties and too a total of 3 years to complete.

As a result, the Prevé is now the first Proton model ever to receive the 5-star Malaysian Vehicle Assessment Programme (MyVAP) rating by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety (MIROS).

In addition, Proton has given the Prevé 508L of boot space, which doesn’t seem to have eaten into the rear’s leg-room and has provided highly water-resistant fabrics for the seats.

All Prevé variants will have a Smart Information Display system (SID), which displays information and status updates on the Prevé’s various functions such as average fuel consumption, distance to empty, battery health and faulty bulb indicator, gear shift lock indicator, home lamp indicator and vehicle intrusion warning to name a few.

Included in the standard mix are LED lights, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), active headrests and anti-trap power window (driver’s side only), front driver and passenger airbags and possess 4G accessibility. However, YES 4G has been integrated into the Premium Prevé, whereas the Executive allows you to remove the 4G unit for greater mobility.

The Prevé Executive comes with an IAFM+ engine that churns out 107bhp at 5,750rpm and 150Nm of torque at 4,000rpm and allows the buyer to choose either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed CVT gearbox which will cost RM59,990  OTR or  RM62,990 OTR respectively.

The Prevé is also equipped with a Push Start button (Premium variant only), two airbags instead of the Premium’s four are amongst the many items.

On the other hand, the range topping Prevé Premium costs RM72,990 OTR, which comes with a 1.6L CAMPRO CFE (Charged Fuel Efficiency) engine that has a low pressure turbo; adding another 31bhp and 55Nm of torque; settling at 138bhp at 5,000rpm and 205Nm of torque which can be found between 2,000rpm and 4,000rpm.

The CFE engine is mated to a 7-speed ProTronic CVT gearbox, which should be Punch PowerTrain’s VT3 gearbox (maximum torque tolerance of 215Nm). However, the Prevé Premium now comes with a Sports “S” mode as well as steering-mounted paddle shifters for a spirited drive.

In terms of fuel economy, the CVT-equipped Prevé Executive is rated to be the best of the lot sipping on only 5.8L/100km, whereas the manual transmission Executive drinks 0.4L more at 6.2L/100km and finally the Premium drinks 6.6L/100km.

Service intervals are now at 10,000km, which should help in keeping maintenance costs down; especially with a 5-Year or 150,000km warranty, whichever comes first for all variants.

Though service intervals have been increased, so has the Prevé’s tyres and rim size; utilizing 16″ alloy rims wrapped by 205/55 GT Radial Champiro Bax 2 tyres.

There are 6 colour choices for the Proton Prevé, being available in Blue Lagoon, Fire Red, Tranquility Black, Solid White, Genetic Silver and Elegant Brown.

(Que dramatic music)So it’s as heavy as the Inspira but smaller capacity? Will the CFE manage? Only time will tell!

*Lightning crashes*

(Que fadeaway music)

I like the direction Proton is taking it’s cars. Kudos to P1!

I would trust the safety features and rigidity of the car only if it was tested by EURONCAP.

Design-wise:1. Satria Neo – superb
2. Exora – lovely, for an MPV
3. Preve – probably will look good in the early noughties but not a decade after. Ducktail boot making a comeback… those days Altima, Legacy sedan, now Preve…

Hopefully uncle auntie will not start to queue at the SC blaming faulty turbine… spurting “turbo minyak kuat!” BS… or worse youngsters embarassing other owners in a new Preve Owners Club by bragging “hari tu aku titik Evo wooooo…!”.

Then Preve Owners Club jadi Preve Performance Club, Preve Special Edition Squad, Preve North, South, East, West convoy then committee members start buying MPV Mitsubishi Toyota Honda Subaru all the other normal members start to slow down until club becomes defunct… it’s a cycle this kinda thing…

All the best Proton. Big-turbo R3 version? That’ll be something.

Saw the interior with my own eyes. Dashboard are all rather cheapo plasticky quality , in the look and feel department.
We need decent quality dash please. From 60k price tag by Proton, am I asking too much?

True but would you rather believe EURONCAP or MyVAP?

I do wonder why after all these years proton still cannot improve the interiors. That’s the first thing you notice once you sit in the car, the crappy plastics. Just take any good car and copy the materials.

This is simply because The TOPIC OF DISCUSSION is on PROTON PREVE.

Anyway, since you are bringing on the topic of other cars, I PERSONALLY do not like the plastic in VIOS and CITY as well. The price tag too high, while the plastic is low in quality. Ask any malaysian, I’m quite sure they would agree. Anyway, willing buyer, willling seller.

Would that make you feeling better? or are you a Proton Cybertrooper or salesman?

engine has 205Nm of torque.. punch gearbox can withstand up to 215Nm.. later mod here and there.. good luck to the future fast n furious owners.. and the tires? sime-conti will probably gives better image and more suitable for a “global” car.

and like DeaconFrost said.. they’ll be Preve owners club, Preve CFE owners club, Preve Elegance Club, Preve Sapphire Edition Club, Preve Tuners, PROPREV club, Preve Global Car club, Preve Performance Club.. etc. KITA KONVOIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Off topic: there’ll be clubs based on:
1. Car model;
2. Car model: but from the Northern region;
3. Car model: this time from Southern region;
4. Car model: for owners from Malacca town only;
5. Car limited edition model;
6. Splinter club created when committee members fight between themselves;
7. Engine model – Non-CFE engine Preve cannot join CFE Preve club, convert also cannot: need to show registration card;
8. Owners from one workshop;
9. Owners from another workshop.

It’s never ending story, this.

All these clubs will do a convoy, and will:
1. Use police escort;
2. ‘Belanja makan’ the police;
3. Before get police escort, must find objectives for convoy: e.g. promote patriotism, promote road safety, visit to welfare houses;
4. Promote patriotism – yet ‘belanja makan’ police who can do something better like catching car thieves;
5. Promote road safety – yet police escort will shove other cars to the side until they almost accident, other road users need to wait until traffic jam;
6. Visit to welfare houses – which you can do subtlely without degrading into an attention whore.

One last thing about convoy – you’ll get to the destination later than usual.

srsly, i dunno why everyone like to bash proton.every organization has their own problems, both financially and with the people.

but they are a car manufacturer, they built cars so ppl can afford one since its consider a national car, so whats the hype?

like kenyeang said, willing buyer – willing seller.

why dont someone open one topic on new vios or new city?

i bet proton has a better platform to compare with city and vios, i have own proton for most of my life…. old protons has better quality built then other ckd manufacturers such as vios and city, which are manufactured in thailand.

and to add, honda city feels like paper when driving and its even worst then my WIRA of 10 yrs, yes altou its built under a lancer chasis but its far solid then a city.

Vios or City only has technologies to make the buyers feel they are safe when driving but think bout it again…… nowdays drivers can drive??

so to end all this bashing, end of the day…. its only the driver that has the final feedback on the car.

u test drive it once, doesnt mean u will like it laa ok…. u first tackle ur gf, ur gf also dont like u at first one laa… get it?

errr…who says cheapo plastic dashboard that already see and touch first hand on it????i would say not bad….considering like other “P” cars or even small hatch blue oval brand plastic interior quality are even not that good….

not the best but it got nice texture to touch…different surface for different area…totally better than gen2/persona grade from my view (*and touch last night)

but about the exterior possibly love-hate decision…..so i rest my case on this area…

but the sound system pretty decent playing nice and clear sounds as well with good bass (*off course la no subwoofer thumping bass)….for a stock car within the price range it is pretty good….

I think not just Proton have cheap plastic. Even the New Prius I bought for my sister have cheaper plastic. I sit inside 1 time only also not feeling want to sit for the 2nd time. The Prius C much worst….

i personally test driven the car and the result based on my personal experience….- acceleration is good for 1.6 (compared to many 1.5, 1.6 & even 1.8)
– interior quietness – very quiet – good insulation even i am revving at rpm5000 plus
– handling – superb 10/10 – challenge my statement if u have better car in this C-segment (stock to stock)….i took 3/4 roundabout turn doing 80km/h and it doesnt steer ….
– fuel consumption – only god knows…cos still new and nobody using it yet..but u want performance – fuel is not an issue rite?
– dashboard quality – plastic….maybe u tell me which car use carbon fibre or metal sheet as dashboard or using full leather dashboard like italian sports car…..with the price range of rm60k to rm120k……i personally can accept the quality of dashboard..at least i can foresee their wont torn off like some japanese or korean made car….
– design – many cars e.g civic ek, lancer gt or even some sports car…at 1st sight sometime we see its ugly but slowly we can accept it and slowly fell for it.
– features to price – what can i comment further (magnesium paddle shift, 7 speed cvt, 4 airbags, rain sensor, light sensor, abs, tc, vsc, lotus ride & handling, push start, gps, 5yrs warranty, 150k km, SiD, 4G, cfe)
– power window – the SA told me 200000km warranty or 10years…so i think not an issue.

the above are based on my own personal experience test driving the car…not pro proton or so..just a fair statement…personally i am driving a persona yr 2009…i am still very happy with it…..cheerz n out.

Hmmm…..I went to the Preve launching yesterday to touch and view the real thing. And it is my personal opinion that i will NOT buy it, or think of buying it. To me its a waste of hard earned money.

Nothing to comment on the engine and the interior , since to each his own , some like it some doesn’t. The use of cheap plastic some can bear with it, some cannot. The use of Malaysia’s own safety rating system to rate their own cars, some find it stupid and insulting, some doesn’t.

You like you buy lah , you don’t like don’t buy lah.

My 2 cents worth.

Peace

If proton were conceived from someone else’s personal piggy bank ,who would give a damn? (except maybe the willing buyer lah) but protong was built with my farkin tax money!! Dont I deserve to critical of the establishment for being pathetic right from the beginning?

Each time a new model is launched I was hoping it would take flight and recover but only to be disappointed with ol’ power window problem, door handle breaking and the likes, how?

So now comes along Pray-vah………..Pray-hard!

(My own opinion and feeling, just in case someone felt kecik hati)

Proton Preve..
1. Money wise –> quite reasonable based on engine and drivetrain performance
2. Performance wise –> Looks ok based on paper spec
3. Looks wise –> FAILED.. the interior looks cheap while the body looks tall and narrow (like honda city).. why can’t they make the car bulkier or sportier.. Proton head of styling department really don’t know how to make a carBTW.. when can i book the test drive session at proton.. want to test the engine performance

devious17, do u think u are the only shareholder for proton?every white/blue collar worker here is a shareholder, we pay taxes as well.

ive said clearly in my statement, its the few ppl inside that is havocking the entire structure of the organisation and it has nothing to do with making a good car or a budget range car.

as usual devious17, pls go bag and play RC MAUAHHAHAHAHAHAA, saves u lotsa troubles

Wow wow Sapphire now that’s more like it. Could it be that the designers deliberately held back when drawing the baseline model Preve, so that the limited editions will look better?

Held back or not, I’m certainly not complaining. Check out the improved front bumper:

Warranty 5 years or 150k km? Sorry but with my experience, proton’s warranty is shit. My friend paid a couple of hundreds for the extended warranty for her BLM. But everytime got problem, they said warranty is on the “engine and gearbox” only and nothing other. Who needs extended warranty on engine and gearbox? And then you have to go back to their crappy and expensive service center and use all their crappy and expensive ori parts EVEN BATTERY. Even if you changed your car’s battery outside to a different brand one, WARRANTY VOID. The stupid salesman even tried to talk shit to me and warn me that MY ECU MIGHT BURN UP.

I test drove the car at 3 different showroom, not bad actually….I think the word “Not Bad” is an understatement it’s better than Not Bad but still have rooms for improvements. Handling and performance is good. The Insulation really like conti car feel….

Went to the showroom today.. honestly the dashboard design is SERIOUSLY LACKING OF CREATIVITY. Cheap plastic parts will look better if there’s a touch of art and creativity to it.Like now its just too boxy and cut and paste look….need serious improvement….

Exterior and power wise.. is something to praise about…congrats on these parts

was checking out again and the cvt executive which powered by iafm campro really needs improvement cos power to weight ratio is bit out…the car felt heavy at start point but when it runs smooth…felt much better..other than that, mostly similar to cfe premium except lesser accessories…

For that kinda money, you shouldn’t be expecting VW standards la. It’s not bad already for that kind of price. Compare it with the even cheaper Chery equivalent and then you’ll know what’s cheap plasticky and crappy.

Having said that, I must also point out that testing the Exora was a ridiculously expensive affair. They had to send over 12 cars (I think) and shipping, testing, fees, etc.. all added up to several million ringgit. It’s only cost effective to have our own testing grounds to at the very least have a baseline, even if it is (maybe) lower (baseline) than NCAP. So this actually makes dollars and cents sense.

Incidentally the MCAP or whatever they call it results for the Waja was pretty much the same as the NCAP results, a 2-star NCAP car. So if they tested this new car, it can’t be too far off.

I don’t get why people keep bashing the looks (inside and out). Looks is a subjective thing. I happen to like the way Emma Watson looks but don’t really fancy Kiera Knightly. Some would say the exact opposite. Is it wrong? No. It’s just personal opinon – subjective. So one mans meat is another mans poison. Lay off the negative vibes on the looks already! Want to bitch about ugly bitch about the Tiara and Myvi LE.

Lastly, the comment about being an indirect shareholder of the company – what’s the point of pointing that out if you have no say in the car or the company? Our true power is the power of purchase – if you want to show your fury setup a demo to boycott Proton and kill its profits to make it unworthy of investment and force the G to stop dumping in our hard earned money protecting a crony company. Put your money where it can have impact, not complain about it in a public forum! If you compare P1 now and P1 10 years ago, I’d say they’ve improved quite a bit. Only issue is the hand holding from the G.

They should have taken up the JV offer with VW. VW wanted to change a lot of their suppliers but P1 refused. That says a lot already.

Put it bluntly, I don’t give a flying ____ how much it costs Proton. If the people in charge of the accounts don’t know how to handle the cash flow, he should get fired. And not justify it by saying because its expensive bla bla bla so we don’t do it.

Look at every other global player, they do it, hell even the Koreans and Chinese are doing it (EURO NCAP). So, is Proton really aiming to be a global player, or they are pretending to be one just to cheat the Malaysian public? It reminds me of Made in Malaysia FMCG with Japanese labeling to make you believe its Made in Japan, exported to Japan or something to do with Japan.

Proton is just a crock of shit with their marketing. “HEY LOOK! We have a global car built to Malaysian safety standards ala MyVAP!” Please, Malaysian safety standards? As a global car? The Malaysian standard don’t even have compulsory ABS and air bags. As far as they are concerned our lives are worthless.

Also, Proton not willing to pay the $ to send the car for NCAP, means again using the RAKYAT’S MONEY to establish MyVAP. Who you think pay for all the research, development, equipment, salary for the people to operate MyVAP? The government, aka RAKYAT’S MONEY! So yeah, make the people pay for it instead of Proton paying for NCAP. Bravo! Malaysia boleh moment.

I think that’s a bad comparison. NCAP is a moving scale, just cause it scored 2 stars last year doesn’t mean it will still score 2 stars this year. Think about it, if its NOT a moving scale, safety in cars won’t improve. If its NOT a moving scale, it’ll be “Oh we scored 5 stars? No need to improve our next face lift then just use existing technology and no R&D to improve further”. Just FYI. Again, I don’t blame you cause in Malaysia safety standards are unheard of.

Quit dreaming people. Proton no longer belong to the rakyat. It now belongs to DRB-Hicom. Basically they built a company using the rakyat’s money and left pocket right pocket it and “acquired” it. Another Malaysia boleh moment.

sometimes giving out 10yrs warranty or whole life dont solve the problems for d power windows ..
problem is ur giving ppl troubles when defect. spoil > fix > spoil > fix n vice versa.
instead of putting effort on d dashboard design being very plastic or wutever it is on d cons, they went for trends. LEDS, auto wipers, push starts etc ..
juz.dont.understand.

I think what K_Takuya meant is sometimes the material used does not matter when the design is more creatively done.

It does not matter if it is made of cheap plastic, if the design is superb.

For analogy’s sake, many Ikea items are made of cheap plastic. But the design is modern and tasteful.

Talking with you is always interesting. We can diss and throw stones at each other but at the end of the day we still can go lim teh and forget about everything. Not that we’ve had our teh ais yet but heck, you’re a cool dude. 😀 So I will indulge!

Money is a delicate thing in any corporation. Working for the worlds 2nd largest company has taught me that. The company I work for has a multi billion dollar bank account *cash* and yet they spend countless hours reducing cost where and whenever possible. Proton is no better shape than it was the previous years where they had enough profits to only line the shareholders (legal and hidden both) pockets. To wrecklessly spend several million more just to test a couple of cars isn’t dollar sense la.

One thing Korean car manufacturers have is blind fierce loyalty from their people. They make way more money than Proton does (dollar for dollar) and even their slowest brand – Kia makes more than Proton. They have money to spend to send a small fleet of their cars to UK for NCAP testing. China… 0.1% of their population is already as big as M’sia. They have a massive market there and the people buy their cheapass cars too. Having said that though, how many Chinese car makers actually have NCAP certification? Not all. Only the bigger more popular ones. Another question, how many Chinese car manufacturers are there? More than 2 that’s for sure. So the Chinese is a bad comparison in that respect.

If you could do it cheaply wouldn’t you consider it? (MCAP)

I don’t think Proton has marketed their cars as being “Global”. They focus on the target market, like in Aust they push the Arena like crazy since those type of cars are pretty important in Aust. In UK it’s all about “cheap and cheerful” (even though I believe there is no such thing), the UK cars are sold as one of the cheapest cars you can buy with reasonable safety features and all (considering it’s a basic requirement to have all these safety features to be sold in the UK, these ‘features’ don’t really count imho). They’ve never put themselves up against their more expensive (in the UK) but way better (IMHO) alternatives like the Golf or Polo or whatever.

There are loads of car manufacturers out there that don’t have NCAP that have more respect that Proton does, like TVR for example. They have zero safety crash testing, have rubbish finishing in most of their cars, have almost no R&D but yet people revere the brand even though it’s bankrupt. Why so? Personally I think it’s because of the passion the buyers have for the brand. If Proton even had 30% of the passion people have for TVR, I think they’ll do better already. But they had to ruin it with the introduction of a couple of crappy cars with shoddy questionable quality as well as questionable suppliers.

But I have to agree that NCAP standards are never stagnant, that’s a pretty good point. But I’m quite sure if Waja was a 2-star NCAP car, it’s not going to be any better than that

Aiya.. everyone’s going on and on about this. It’s called spot welding. If you can find me a spot welded stock car that looks better than this I’ll be stumped. Spot welding is a pretty common (and strong) way of welding and it may be ugly but that isn’t a manufacturing flaw or a problem. It’s supposed to look like that!

There’s a problem with this statement of yours. They recently offered lifetime warranty on all their power windows. And if they don’t start offering all these new fandangled stuff (auto whatever, push start, LED) then people will start complaining about how old fashioned these cars are etc etc. You can’t win like that.

Do also die, don’t do also die.

Note : I’m not pro-Proton. I only think P1 should be given the chance to improve and since they seem to be trying, I think it’s only fair we give them the benefit of the doubt. The only thing/person that doesn’t deserve a 2nd chance has already been banned from ZTH so that’s that

If P1 after all this “effort” still produces rubbish quality cars, cars that notoriously break down all the time (like when Vios and Avanza had their fair share of teething problems), and we see no change whatsoever in the management – then we castrate the brand and the govt. Until then let them have their viagra to try to impress us.

Ah ok. But for the record, some of the plastic mould bits they did for the dash is quite daring. According to some folks it’s actually not easy to make. Personally I find the design quite pleasing. I like simple clean lines.

I’ve owned a Wira (1st car) and a V6 before but I can’t see myself buying a Proton in the near future, so I don’t consider myself pro-Proton.

But I’ve driven and sat in a number of cars already, enough to view Proton from an objective point of view.

Cheap plastic? Suzuki Swift.

Breakdown? Fiat.

From where I sit, Proton fared better than the Koreans. I’ve never been to Korea but when my wife watches Korean dramas, I noticed that all the cars driven are Korean-made: from nice Kia Forte to ugly as f**k Ssangyong SUV.

You would think that by now Koreans would have been already driving high powered performance Hyundais, but what do they get? An effing Tiburon. A weakass Forte freaking Koup.

Blind obedience (like you said) from double the population of Malaysia, and still what they get is a freaking Tiburon.

Corrupt? Daewoo boss committed suicide.

So Thailand make Toyotas? They only assemble them. One or two more big floods or one or two more coup d’etat and that will surely make the Japs rethink.

Without Toyota is Thailand still an automotive hub?

In Malaysia it’s not only Proton. There are 20-30 more Proton vendors providing jobs and livelihood. Yes, you would think that these cronies have a hand in the making of dissapointing Proton models. Probably these vendors will fold if they produce a better quality dashboard.

But still, while we get a Satria Neo Campro CPS, the Koreans get a freaking Tiburon.

I’m not pro-proton la. I have no Protons at home except for a 8 year old Wira A/B which is my test mule for everything I DIY.

My car history has been quite sad. First car a Nissan Sentra Genting Taxi type. Sold it after the manual GB broke down. No freaking idea how that happened. 2nd car a Ford Telstar, sold that after a Perdana (non v6) got offered to me at a good deal (trade-in high). Got a 2nd car – Wira sedan carbie. Ruined the Perdana GB and sold that for a Toyota. Bloody Perdana gave me more problems than it was worth. The goddamn Wira was possessed by a PMSing ghost and was covered in rust after 3 years. Refused to work whenever I picked up certain people and got me into 4 major accidents 2 of which was consecutively after the other (4 hours after it came out from the shop it crashed). And I blame the car because twice it was burst tyres, once was failed brakes and the last was just pure badluck. Sold that for my current Wira A/B SE. Have 2 other Myvis at home, both different generation Myvis. Wira A/B has been very cheap to maintain and mod, and my Myvis are soulless but at least they never have major issues. Toyota is from the old Toyota generation – meaning it never breaks down.

So yeah, I’m not pro-Proton. I’ve hated every car before the Persona for various personal reasons but my personal reasons aren’t enough for me to condemn the brand.

Eh.. the new Tiburon is quite nice ler. And I happen to like the Koup! It’s underpowered but that makes modding it all the more interesting!

My friend, nothing you say will offend me. We’re just discussing so as long as you don’t start talking about my mother / father then nothing will be offensive la.

The Gen2 is still in the “problematic P1” era with the exception of the Satria GTI. It only started to get better with the Persona and Satria Neo. If you have a look the Neo, the complaints people have are pretty small. Nothing serious to complain about and those who own the car love their cars until they get something bigger or more powerful. The same goes for Persona owners. That’s indication of improvement imho.

Wow Izso…You change car like change clothes man… Haha… For me, I hate all protons except wira, perdana and the newer models like BLM and persona. Oh but I hate the Exora too. I feel that the older wiras has some decent build quality and this goes for the interior too.

There you’ve said it man! The Koup is underpowered!

You know what other kereta that looks nice but underpowered?

Freaking kereta berhias.

I tell you these Koreans, after all their history of ship-building and car-making, they manage to become worse than us!

You got me right. Its not the matter of material. Its the design and creativity. While we have a nice aero exterior for the Preve, but the dashboard inside seems loosing the ‘theme’ almost completely. The centre console is almost all 90 degree in corner in al parts… and the meter panel… I dare to say electronic display panel will cost less when produce in bulk…

Maybe they will do it in Preve SE ? hehe

Erm.. Sigh.. must you make me say it? I’m probably much older than you (having seen your FB I know I am) so having all these cars over the period of several decades, nothing much to shout about la. And whats more I have quite a few drivers in my family so the number of cars I have isn’t really that surprising not to mention on average there are 2 cars per family these days.

The older Wiras had decent build quality because they were just rebadged Lancers mah. Same car different make. But build quality erm…

You’re a funny guy you know that? If I had an interest in moving floats then I’d take offense to what you said here! I mean, imagine the kind of “modifications” I could do to a float to make it super grand and all.

But I have no interest in floats. Koup is underpowered la.. but plonk in the Forte 2.0 engine and it’ll fly. Can’t blame Kia for the tiny engine, they have regulations on capacity like we do here. If it were based on CO2 and emissions instead (like in the US of A) then we’d see 8L torque monsters in KL loo…

Aiya.. you don’t like, I like. I like, you don’t like. There’s nothing wrong with either preference. I’m just not a huge power buff like most of the ZTH-ians here. Afterall I only own a Wira 1.5 that does 15km/L on average and gets me from point A to B happily without issues. I don’t need to be faster than the neighboring car mah. For me anyway.

Ahahaha bro, please, don’t exhibit too much love for your Wira in front of us bro, it’s already obscene man, spare us. I liked my Wira too, the same way as I like my plastic water pail that I use to wash my car: practical tools both of them, still haven’t wrote a love letter to them.

About the money part I can understand the corporate standpoint, but seriously, all they are doing is passing the cost (sending car to NCAP) to the rakyat of Malaysia (getting government to setup MyVAP). I guess in that case you can say Proton damn smart and the rakyat bodoh lah.

Again if they can’t figure out how to manage the money to be able to afford to send cars to NCAP, then get someone who can. Market leaders were not always market leaders, some used to be underdogs e.g. Toyota when it entered the USA market. A more recent example, Hyundai in USA.

I think the Chinese is a good example because the Malaysian car industry started before the Chinese, and the only thing Chinese car makers have going for them is a larger market. Proton has better available technology (through Mitsubishi when it started, and Lotus later on) yet they still make cars that are below par. Then you argue, but Proton have a smaller market! True, thats why you’re supposed to EXPORT the bloody car. Wait, nobody buying your car outside of Malaysia? Well, HELLO, because people don’t buy rubbish!

TVR..ahh, yes, people do revere them, but as your said, they are bankrupt, and if you’re dead nobody cares. Likewise, if Proton continues to make crap that they cannot export, they will be dead. And guess who’s money will be used to bail it out?

Proton position Preve as a global car. Read the news bro
Malaysia’s carmaker has global ambitions with Preve
Proton Prevé launched – Top News – New Straits Times

Proton’s *first* global car. What? You figured you can’t rip people of after 29 years of existence and now you want to export? So for the past 29 years, you been selling what? Crap cars of crap standard?

I think its a first global joke. It has an ass that even a mother would puke at. I think an art student from Lim Kok Weng can do a better design.

Wahahaha.. glad you caught that. But I mentioned it the way I did because no normal Wira can get 15km/L la. In fact I doubt any of the cars today can do that unless they have some new fandangled technological marvel thingy like dual VVTI or IDSI or whatever. Anyway, I am passionate about my Wira because I stripped her bare down to the bone and rebuilt her back screw by screw until what she is today. (I wanted to make some obscene female analogy but couldn’t find the appropriate choice of words dammit) So yeah I love my Wira. But in no way am I pro-Proton.

I have nothing to say to your points except for the China market part. I know for a fact that for a company to sell their brand in China, they are required to submit schematics of some sort to the govt before they are given the license to operate in China. Hence the ridiculous Chinese brand rip off copies of the BMW X5, VW Jetta and all those other cars which literally look exactly the same as their originals, except for some minor details.

And I still think beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don’t think the Pervert is an ugly car lor. A stupid name – yes, ugly no. But that’s my personal opinion though.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, though I might argue that they are blind. In any case, Proton doesn’t need to export to China, they can export to anywhere they want, and if their cars were any good people would buy it.Go to an Audi showroom and ask the salesman how long is the wait period for a brand new Q5, how much is the deposit and how many orders they have waiting. You’d be surprised, I know I was. You know why? People are willing to pay and wait for things that are worth it.

If Proton cars were any good, and if they exported it, well, people would queue for it too.

I do acknowledge that their cars have pros, namely the handling, hell I think Savvy for a car of its shape and size have amazing handling, easily better than all cars in that class including imports. Other than that, I don’t think the CPS engine is a pro, its 20 years late – oh hello VTEC and its only good for track – lousy power band on the low revs.

Features don’t sell a car. What’s the use of auto wipers if my windows are busted and I can’t wind it up? Giving a 10 year warranty is not solving the problem, giving us a quality power window that won’t break down in the first place, that’s the solution.

Audi’s are on a different level altogether. They have huge R&D budgets, have super deep pockets and money makes the world goes round. So if you ask me whether I’m surprised about the Q5 waiting list, I’m not surprised at all. They have so much going on for them because they know their cars are quality stuff. Unlike Proton and their crony suppliers. Until the suppliers change I personally think Proton will not improve in quality. But as a company they are going in the right direction with their vision and their attempts at making a new car etc etc.

features sell a car if the car itself is of quality to begin with. if its, well, crap, no amount of features will make up for it. You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time but you cannot fool all the people all the time.

since in your opinion you think features do sell cars, let’s wait and see if the Preve outsells the Vios. If it DOES NOT, then the Preve is a sound failure. Let’s wait and see. Numbers speak louder than words. Personally, the Preve should outsell the Vios, that’s logic, due to price points and feature set. However, looking at Inspira sales numbers behind that of the Vios and City, I think the Proton badge makes a bigger dent that we think. Wait and see.

As for Vios -> Vios TRD..they can do it and people will buy it, despite the fact that its made to rip people off.

bro,Inspira is a totally different segment with vios n city la, its a 2.0 sedan and why u comparing it with city n vios. city n vios should compare with persona, forte, elantra & peugeot 206 etc….
fyi, inspira sales is much higher to compare to accord, camry, slyphy, optima, sonata….
btw, i think you personally got serious problem with Proton thats why you keep bashing them, i believe u r a well off person and not using Proton anymore, just leave Proton aside and focus on yr new ride, yr dream ride or whatever ride you intend to buy….why put a spike inside yr heart and keep bashing.

Power window problem, solved years ago bro….Proton giving 10years warranty is to assure customer that they had solve the problem, of cos out of 150000 units plus they produced, a few units with defect due to happen….but that numbers are reducing and they are improving.

Default Re: LAUNCH: Proton Prevé (From RM59,990 to RM72,990 OTR)!

In my opinion, Proton should prove with the Preve that they have taken a considerable leap in terms of equipment, technology and quality compared to their last generation of cars. There must be overall improvement and that must lead to a competitive Proton, not only in the local market but internationally as well. This would be a good thing only if it leads to a truly open automotive market in Malaysia where Proton can prove that their products can stack up to the competition.I believe, Proton was too deep in their comfort zone and certainly have taken too long to buck up. Innovation and improvements, many believed, were too little and took too long. Of course, over time, this has resulted in the brand Proton to be associated with the word ‘cheap’ and ‘nasty’ and generally a negative public perception towards Proton which is what we are seeing right now, in this very thread. Whether or not that’s justifiable is another matter.

Thus, the Preve must prove to the general public that their ways have changed. The quality must be up to par. Old issues must be ironed out, and most important of all, it must be competitive with cars in the same segment. I remain hopeful, that this would ultimately lead to a proper open automotive market in Malaysia where manufacturers are truly competitve with each other on a fair ground, which would of course benefit us the consumer.

The longer they take their time though, the harder it will be to change public perception. In the end, I fear, Proton would fail not because their products are not good enough, but because people simply didn’t believe in them anymore.

fyi, inspira sales is much higher to compare to accord, camry, slyphy, optima, sonata….

I agree Inspira is in a different segment but if you’re comparing it with Accord, Camry, Sylphy, Optima and Sonata, you’re on the wrong segment la. You’re comparing a sub RM90k with cars that all cost above RM120k. If you’re talking sales – of course la. If you’re comparing cars, I dare say the Inspira is no match for any of those cars in that range. But then again it wouldn’t really be a fair comparison since IMHO it’s not the same segment.

Inspira is more of a Forte competitor than anything else and my guess is Forte is selling better than the Inspira.

City and Vios with Persona, Forte 1.6, probably yes, but Peugeot 206 and Elantra (the new one anyway) are different segments imho.

Agree with this. Now it’s not whether the car is bad or good. It’s just that it is difficult or near impossible to convince people already. Making a sucky car for some point of time is one thing. Just like korean cars. But staying in comfort zone for too long, repeatedly robbing the people’s money and giving people cheapo cars is another level altogether. And proton is in that category. Look at korean cars, they were lousy but they still can rise up today. But proton, why are people saying stuff like that? How many people rae saying similar things? Can one say all those people are wrong?

Yep, prolonging models like the Wira with ‘Special Edition’ badging and a GT Wing is shooting yourself in the foot really…

Yeah. I guess many malaysians are phobia of the word “new model” that comes from proton already.
I appreciate attempts like the Satria GTI and R3 models and the Gen 2 derivatives as well as preve. They are not good to jap standards but those are seriously new models. Not like those wira SE, millenium edition, Saga lmst and similar shits. Having said that, I’m not saying that they are good.

Wow, as a Moderator you seem unable to moderate at all.
Keep the discussion on topic, resorting to personal assumptions or what you think about the individuals discussing the topic is irrelevant.

Please, point out a statement where I bashed Proton without merit.

I don’t understand why you compare Inspira (a C-segment with B-segment price tag) with D-segment cars with a D-segment price tag. What is your point?

Inspira is a C-segment car, with a B-segment price tag, which is why I compare it to B-segment Vios and City. Despite being more car for the money, the Vios/City still outsells it over and over. My point is very simple (which appears that you are unable grasp) which I shall elaborate for your benefit.

Ah Beng has a budget of 80~90k to buy a car. The Proton Inspira is a C-segment car, 2L engine based on Japanese technology assembled, sold and supported by Proton. The Toyota Vios is a B-segment car, 1.5L engine made in Thailand and assembled by UMW Toyota, and likewise almost a similar story with the Honda City. With the limited budget Ah Beng has, on paper, you get more car with the Inspira, auto wipers, bigger engine, bigger car, better NVH, but he chose to buy a Vios/City over an Inspira.

Point in case: A lot of people such as Ah Beng with the budget rather buy Toyota Vios rather than the Proton Inspira, despite the Inspira having more features and being in a higher segment.

Relevance to this topic: The Proton Preve is also positioned as a C-segment car by Proton, with a price lower than B-segment cars. So would it fail like its stablemate the Inspira? A C-segment at the same price as B-segment cars, and failed miserably in that price bracket.

Logically, it make sense to buy Inspira over Vios/City. Likewise, I feel it make sense to buy the Preve over Vios/City due to the features, size (C-segment size), engine power (CFE yo). However, the sales numbers of Inspira have shown otherwise. If you asked me to bet on Preve to outsell the Vios/City, I would bet on the Preve. But if it doesn’t, Proton can really close shop.

izso: maybe you can share a thing or two on how to have a civilized discussion, to agree to disagree, as well as not making it personal.

ok…since proton has bad reputation previously i would say their situation were exactly like Hyundai/Kia product here…how many ppl bashing up when new generation kia forte/hyundai sonata yf coming to our shore??? but now what you all did see was those car swarming on our road quite a lot…..does that make sense??? after all prev. hyundai accent and kia sephia/spectra experience?

i look this way…give them chance to prove themselve…yes it does take quite a long time to prove…but why all ppl can give so many chance to outsiders while not giving a damm tiny opportunity for our local home-grown product to expand and improve????

after all..i would say this preve was the last chance for dato’ syed zainal to prove that he got what it takes to handle a car manufacturer….to make even his position really unstable that recently DRB-accuired proton shares….there’s big risk if he fail this time surely DRB would put new people to replace him…(*and if) this really happens we’ll later whether proton would make it or leave the industry…

just me n my keyboard 5second tought…

Agreed. That’s why I think the Preve is such a crucial model for Proton. It needs to change public perception, simple as. Mind you, it’s not gonna be easy.

Make a good product (be it in quality, or even just looks) and people will buy them. But that only works if your reputation is still intact. Proton has been given the time and space to develop in a protected market for a long period of time and peole are only right to question why are improvements so hard to come by. If Proton is not taking the opportunity so graciously given them by the goverment (and us, indirectly) to start growing, then why should we even bother?

As someone said earlier. The supplier of the parts are the root of the issue. I assume all cronies so they can deliver subpar quality for cut throat prices. This is the reason ppl rather not buy proton. And this is the reason why it will fail epicly if exported.

I’m not bashing. Just stating the reality. If you drive a proton and I hurt your feelings, well too bad

And here.. welding on the chassis breaking apart..that one is done by Proton themselves I presume.
http://www.tokobakso.com/malaysia/ke…alah-lain.html

So, as I’ve said earlier, global car my ass.

Ixeo : that someone is me. crony crony crony!
blah blah blah!
boo boo boo!
crony crony crony!

My friend was contracted into making parts for P1 but not as a direct supplier. As a subcon to the crony because the original con make crappy parts that resulted in massive radiator recalls. Great huh? Best part is my friend refused the job, asked them to go do themselves because he lost the contract to make the part originally because of the cronies.

So again : crony crony crony!

As for Vios -> Vios TRD..they can do it and people will buy it, despite the fact that its made to rip people off.

first, i am Bob Marley fan, and i feel down that u r using his quote.

cannot like that , bro. Preve/Vios target market are different.

since u say numbers speak louder than words. give us statistics of proton failure vs T ,H ,N ,M ,K ,H.

vios TRD ,why people buy it is obvious la.. brand blinding.not coz of quality

dear Ixeo,
maybe u r so well off that u can talk so big and arrogant behind the keyboard, to me, i am sharing and expressing what i think, whatever i posted is based on my own view and i am sharing out as this is an open forum….be it moderator or not moderator, i am still a normal being. as i mentioned earlier, maybe u r too blinded with your ego and keep wanting ppl to agree with whatever statement u made, therefore u start using the word to “civilized discussion” and so on.
using the term ah beng, it means buying vios n city are all ah beng? come on, u can keep bashing as u like and u can keep condemning as u like, i am not gonna continue this unfruitful discussion and sharing with u because i think u being a senior member here doesnt understand the word “sharing”….u can look back into our posting…who is the one getting personal…

no point sharing B segment, C segment or whatever segment as these actually not important to consumer who likes certain car and buy it….its only terms we mentioned in automotive industry to differentiate different target market. i find it normal to share my own thoughts…if it offended you then live with it…..u don have to attack ppl cos it doesnt reflex yr maturity in handling objection in public forum.
i wont wanna argue with u anymore, cos from 1st posting till now, i am sharing and of course in a discussion, there are sure debate…so when ppl debate, u say ppl are getting personal…so i must say SORRY TUANKU…i keep my mouth shut…u r the best….so lets continue our sharing! thanks, cheerz n out….good weekend ahead

I am toyota user and love toyotas. But to be fair, I must say that the TRD sportivo is shit and I am dissapointed with it. Not just cosmetics, it does have sportivo suspension setup. But then, we are getting a lot less than what thailand is getting. Their TRD vios got turbo and more goodies. According to my friend, a salesman at toyota, they had initial plans for the TRD engine. But after the gov tax the shit out of us, they found that the price soared way high close to the region fo altis. Therefore it appeals to very little people and they ditched the plan. So actually, i agree it is shit but not caused by toyota themselves. But by the gov. For what? In the end, to protect proton.

Then again, to be fair, all those japanese cars have defects as well and unfortunately, toyota seems to have a lot of them lately. Quality issues. Even some time back in the US, they have probs with Prius sticky pedals. Even some Lexus models. Sigh… But remember, what a lot of people say about proton is not jsut normal issues. But the fact that they took their long sweet time being comfortable and selling us crap quality cars. So it’s more like we feel that they took advantage on us rather than quality issues anymore. If it is just quality issues, it can be solved. But when it gets to the heart and it angers people, it is difficult. The whole brand name is ****. Maybe instead of proton, they should just shut it down and rename it electron or neutron .

i thought the same like u said…their damages are too extensive and worst like cancer, no matter what treatment, new medicine or any new breakthrough, ppl will always keep thinking the past….its not a bad idea to suggest to Proton that the name already let ppl perceive them badly, sigh….what to do….now the newer generation of Proton have to face these! some more now the accident and welding thing cause so many feedback in some forums n fb

Actually bro EvolutionZ, something I do not understand about the welding. I can’t see very clearly in fb picture. What part is that? Looked like a door is it?

Wow, don’t take my words out of context. I said Inspira failed against Vios/City. I never mentioned N, M, K at all. It wasn’t me.
MAA Vehicle Sales Data for October 2011

there are the numbers, Jan 2011 – October 2011
Inspira 8028
Vios 25485
City 10470

I already said why I compared Inspira to Vios and City. Same price bracket.

Target market different? I don’t see how, as they target the individuals with the same buying power? Or you refer to Proton’s target market of people who are naive enough to believe Proton?

just test drove a preve

-from stanstill, its like saga blm 1.3, but surge comes after 2krpm.i used handbrake, bit improved lag but still like blm 1.3. can live with it i think.
-ride is smooth.like conti set up a bit. stiff2 sedap. no crashy
-handling good, but car stance a bit high.
-interior simple, but font mcm main2
-space very big
-noise very minimal, engine growl is heard, but i like that
– brake is satisfying.
-overall u feel not a proton very much, more like korean japs i think. takde la sampai BMW.

will I buy this? wait till i test drove all other cars in my list.but, yes, the value for money is damn high

nah, even proton went bankrupt, gov. will still impose same tax for foreign car, if gov. want to help proton so much they would not impose 75% excise tax & 10% sale tax for proton, our lovely gov. just want our money, that all, i do agree, proton are plague with quality issue, & if proton close shop, less tax payer money will be use to help proton ass whenever they are in trouble,

but, but, for soo long toyota & honda made proton as their scapegoat but after looking at this website Malaysia Automotive Association

it look like ckd’ed cars like vios & civic only been imposed extra 10% extra only compared to proton, and yet these car’s price so high here in malaysia, these company been milking malaysian buying their overpriced & underspec cars

Singapore I think it is acceptable to implement the COE because its a small country… can’t have that much cars else the road will end up being a parking lot! lol. but that is steering off topic.fraz, when you said stance high, what was the impact on driving? did you notice roll on the car or just the high feeling like your in a crossover rather than a sedan?

stance only give psychological effect. like u scared it will roll like hell. i am used to low stance, coz i am adjustable suspension user.

in reality, its a stable car. roll is minimal and not cause u to sweat.

Why compare to Sg? Why compare to places that are worse? Surely there are places that are worse than msia. But if we want to improve, we must always compare/benchmark against those better such as US, UK. If we keep comparing our car prices to Sg, our fuel prices to Aust, our rotax to Japan, we will just be complacent and not have the drive to improve!

I just wanna share my experience test driving the newest Proton a few days ago. The only available test drive unit was the CFE version. After filling in the form, I took the key (not really a key but a kind of tiny plastic box/immobilizer) from the pretty sales advisor , put it in the slot, press the brake pedal, and push the start button. From standstill, throttle response was dull, meaning there’s very little response in the first few mm of pedal travel. I really don’t like this, but I guess some people just don’t bother with it. Once picking up speed, throttle response improved a bit, but I still felt that it could be improved. There’s no feeling of underpower once the engine speed rises above 2000rpm. Tried the sports mode. The RPM went up by 1000 while still maintaining the current speed. Throttle response was not significantly better. When I mash the trottle, the acceleration can be felt. I believe Proton’s claimed 0-100km/h time of 9.6s is easily achievable. Then I tried the 7-speed manual mode. Shifting speed was okay, but it’s not immediate. Acceptable for a CVT I think.

In the ride and handling department, I can say that Preve is a level above it’s competitors like Persona, Waja, Forte or City. I dunno about Inspira since I never drove one. The ride comfort is almost similar to Civic but the handling is much better. Suspension is firm and the rebound is fast like continental cars setup but not harsh over small stones and yellow lines. Body roll is well retained during cornering. Thumbs up!

NVH levels are very good at low and medium speeds. However, I couldn’t manage to drive it above 110km/h, so I dunno about its NVH levels above that speed.

Design wise, it looked quite good (to me) especially in white. Much better in real compared to photos.

Interior: Quite okay. The quality of plastic used is almost the same level as Forte. Interior design is average but ergonomics is really good. My left leg can rest in comfortable position and didn’t fight for space with centre console. Seat height is adjustable. The steering is small but precise and nice to hold. Steering feel is just okay, it’s light but I can still get some feedback from it, but not that much. Steering ratio is quick and I like this.

The only thing that bothered me was the sluggish throttle response. I hope Proton do something about this. Other than that, thumbs up to Proton!

Went to see the car but didn’t get the chance to test drive. The interior looks better in real life. And for the first time, Proton has managed to get the materials right. The plastics are FINE. But the fit and finish are still not up to mark. Closing the glovebox is a bit notchy. Seats are firm and nice. Suspension is set firm – the car hardly moves when I get in and out of the car. Steering looks like import grade.

Throttle lag? probably it’s the drive-by-wire thingy. The car is also heavy hence the feeling of slightly underpowered.

Proton should have come out with a car like this 5 years ago. And where is the CFE 6-speed manual?? It’s a global car.. mat sallehs love stick shifters!

Default Re: LAUNCH: Proton Prevé (From RM59,990 to RM72,990 OTR)!

I managed to test-drive a CFE Preve last Saturday, and here is my opinion:Exterior:
Looks better in real life. This is maybe because in real life, you are looking at an angle downwards to the car, as opposed to the pictures where you were looking upwards. Some people can say that Proton should have made the car attractive from all angles, but as a Honda fan, I am forced to swallow my pride and say, objectively, that the FD Civic looks flat from the side also, and the rear lights look like a cheap abomination from Altezza.

The Audi-like LED, when viewed during the dusk, is like wow. It makes the silhouette of the car looks menacing enough for people to double-guess and just make way: for a Proton to overtake.

Interior:
The dashboard’s design, surprisingly, is not bad also. I can understand the direction: some people like bubbles, Angeline Jolie likes knife.

Colour choice: I’ve seen worse in Evos, but everybody loves Evos. Just because everybody loves the engine doesn’t make the seats less sh*tty.

Seat’s headrest reminds me of CRX EG2, which is my favourite. Seat is almost as firm like an BMW E92: which I don’t personally prefer: if it’s a family car, a ‘balik kampung’ ride, I want my cushion as thick and slack as performance can allow. Japanese Yakuza-sytle thick or British royal-syle thick, not Scandinavian or German minimalist sh*t. I didn’t ask for chrome trims or undercarriage neons. I just appreciate my spine.

But when I stepped out of the car, my head hit the upper door frame. What the f**k. My old EG6 is small but I never hit the door frame ever. Probably the seat height: tall, but the cushion is not thick. So what makes it tall then?

Ride & handling:
Ride is good: you can sit in a BMW F10 and your butt won’t be able to tell the difference. Believe me: go sit in a BMW F10, and then find a pothole.

Handling is where this car shines. The car is high, yes, but the handling is still good for such a high car. The only way that this car can get into an accident, like in the viral photo, is that the SA forgot to downshift (maybe he’s on the 7th gear hohoho).

Performance:
Performance from standstill is similar to what other people say: sluggish. You need to rev until 2,000rpm before you feel the difference. When the turbo kicks in, hmmm… not bad. I used the S mode, but I feel like the S mode is more suitable for say: auto-cruise touge? Sometimes it holds rev too long. Personally I like to use the paddle shift more: makes me able to choose… when I’m excited. When I’m lazy, S mode or D mode is enough.

Verdict:
A car enthusiast wants a fairly powerful car. If it doesn’t have the horsepower, it must have torque. This car has the torque.

A married car enthusiast however, who also happens to works in KL, wants a fairly powerful car that is not a manual, otherwise you go through MRR2 traffic often enough and your knee will become cacat: love your kepala lutut fellas. And, not the traditional auto either. He wants a tiptronic so that he can be Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde when he chooses. And his wife can become Mrs. Jekyll when sending the kids to the nursery.

So what turbo torquey tiptronic family car can you buy in the market? Colt? Not a sedan. Legacy? RM50k more… for a used unit. Evo GTA? A bit harsh for the children.

That leaves you with… Preve?

Brand sentiment? We are mature enough to overcome that, don’t we?

In Malaysia, can safely say that majority of the average driver buy a car according to brand only. Toyota and Honda branding is very strong in majority of the people. Trying asking 10 people is Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Suzuki good? they sure give you that blank face….The Vios and City is overrated….the underdogs? the Sentra, Latio, Mazda 2Just my 2 cents…

Fair assessment of the car.
this point made me ponder, are there any turbocharged CVT cars prior to this Preve? I can’t think of any.

Erm.. underdog? Perhaps the Latio drives well but looks awful. Sentra 1.6 drives awful. Sentra 1.8 is overpriced. Mazda2 not bad.

But then again this is my own opinion.

As for the Preve, nice review Deaconfrost!

ah, yes. I meant, other than Proton doing it. somehow in my mind CVT has not have a good track record with high horsepower/torque usage. and for the life of me I cannot think of any other car manufacturer pairing CVT with turbo — stock from the factory that is.

izso: I like the new Latio hatch’s rear..like it more than the Preve. I really can’t swallow Preve’s rear end… look like it got rear ended.

of course, looks are subjective.

Colt is CVT.

Just when I thought the Preve is ruined by it’s Persona platform…

Youngman Lotus T5 – an SUV based on the Gen2 platform. One could think that the Persona/Preve/Gen2 platform has a high back for a purpose – to form the back of an SUV/crossover.

Looks like there are mixed reviews here. Not surprising actually. Everyone is entitled to his /her own view. useful for those who might want to own this Preve.Keep the review coming, guys.

Proton need to keep the run at this pace. Introducing new model in every 5 years to replace the older. So, we can expect much more improvement in next model.

If put Latio and Vios together I think will be hard to judge…The Latio Hatch is quite nice actually. Also the Mazda2 is not bad compare to Vios but just the branding is not strong here…

Its like people are all locked inside the Toyota or Honda box.

Aiya taiko, that’s why I pointed out it’s my own opinion. I dislike the Latio at any angle with any bodykit. It’s just god-awful to look at imho. But drives pretty well this I gotta admit.

Toyota or Honda box… well there’s a few reasons for that not including the performance of the cars. Easy accessibility of parts, cheaper parts, maintenance is cheaper, insane resale value, just to name a few. If I had loads of cash in hand I’d get myself a Audi A4T 2008 model and do it up. But that’ll probably cost more than buying it 2nd hand.

Anyway we’re digressing.

Note : I like the way how the conversation is going on here. This should be the way for all of our conversations! Very little flaming and lots of factual discussion so kudos to all for the highly mature talk!

well it was almost flame-free until one fine individual decides to resort to personal assault.

Here’s some numbers, and commentary from RS Dynotune @ Puchong.

Quote:
Here is it Power and Torque graph for the latest Proton Preve 1.6CFE turbo engine courtesy of Proton Edar from Seri Kembangan (012-3338621).
It is more power and torque than what Proton claims.
Full power is not available at lower gears resulting in massive turbo lag. We suspect this is done to prolong the life of the CVT transmission. Stock fuel tuning is very lean thru out the whole operating range at 14.7:1 AFR and causes engine knock before and after turbo boost kicks in. At this air fuel ratio, especially at high RPM and high load, the engine will run very hot.For reference, a fully stock Proton Satria Neo 1.6 makes 112hp on our dyno, not far from what is claimed. So this high figures are real and not as a result of our dyno reading high.
The other good news is that this car now supports OBD2 universal protocol which means you can connect a cheap bluetooth OBD2 adapter and run app such as TORQUE on your android phone to read ecu data such as RPM, boost, temperature, ignition timing etc.

My comments: Very lean? Hardly what most other manufacturers would do for a turbo vehicle. Knocking? Seriously, I am surprised. I think if they have nobody capable of tuning it they should outsource it to the professionals like GT Auto or N1 Racing.

The 7-speed ProTronic CVT gearbox – Punch PowerTrain’s VT3 gearbox has a maximum torque tolerance of 215Nm only. The engine in stock form does 232Nm *good job*, I wonder how long it’ll last.

For comparison, the Mitsubishi Colt CZT uses an Aisin supplied CVT gearbox. If you have no clue who Aisin is go ask Google.

Punch on the other hand, manufactures ZF licensed CVT gearbox and most cars using it is of China manufacturers. I’m skeptical.

Lean? 14.7:1 sounds pretty good. It is stoic. I’ve heard of BOTs that run on 15:1 on low load. Of course when load is high, it wil be around 13:1. But averagely, 14.7:1 sounds pretty good. No? Correct me if i’m wrong.

it’s either the dyno machine give wrong reading or the 215Nm cvt box max. torque input, is just an attempt from proton to deter their customer from upgrading their turbo and have to deal with warranty claim. But the way RS dyno claimed their dyno machine is accurate a bit dubious, they should show prove their machine is properly calibrated.

I immediately stop when i saw 232Nm. this cant be true at all. higher than proton claimed? hahaha. RS dynotune machine is not properly calibrated , if i is, well, no2, cannot be true la higher than claimed by manufacturer.

14.7/1 i think this is the ratio number for complete combustion, if my F4 chemistry memory is still ok.
