BMW M1 Concept Pays Homage to Original 1978 M1

BMW pays homage to the original M1 which was unveiled 30 years ago with this jaw dropping concept. BMW choose to reveal the car on the M1’s birthday which took place at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este

The M1’s edgy styling remains but now with a touch of modernity in its design. The more obvious parts that retain the original look are the rear-diffuser, the miniscule door mirrors and the modern pen has done away with the door handles and included a extra-wide body. The grill though, is definitely something that BMW should consider in future models, or better yet, just use the M1 as a platform to introduce a new grill design but that means having to produce it, no news about that yet.

This new design shape breathes new life into the BMW line up as it looks like nothing before and yet it is still clearly BMW. No pictures of the interior are available yet and there is no information as to how or what powers it, I’m secretly hoping its naturally aspirated.

BMW execs refer to the M1 Concept as purely a design study created to honour BMWs past but if there is enough of a outcry from BMW fans for it to be produced, BMW just might honour the demand with a limited production version, perhaps putting everything it knows to create the ultimate driving machine.
