Any Idea whether any web site is available to check the chassis numbers against the year of manufacture for a 350Z? As you know, importers always cheat, can be good in the sense that they declare a 05 car for 03 due to Kastam Duties.

Thanks bros, let me try. But 100%, if I am looking for a 350Z that has been facelifted, I have to buy a 2006 one. The one with the 314HP engine instead of the 280HP.

james, the first facelift actually started in 2005. The 2005 facelift 350z with manual transmission has the same rev-up VQ35DE engine as the 2006 versions, rated at 300bhp. 2007 is the second facelift with new VQ35HR engine with 306bhp.

pre-2005 and early 2005
manual/auto = VQ35DE 287bhp

late-2005 (first facelift = new exterior, interior, 5-spoke rims, projector headlights, LED rear lights, etc)
manual = VQ35DE rev-up 300bhp
auto = VQ35DE 287bhp

2006 (same as late 2005)
manual/auto = VQ35DE rev-up 300bhp

2007-2008 (second facelift = hump on hood)
manual/auto = VQ35HR 306bhp

That's as much as I know if my sources are correct. You can identify the rev-up engine by looking at the RPM red-line, it's higher than 6.5k.

Thank you SNX,
Very good and useful information.

Looks like, I should look for a 2006 Auto with the 300 BHP Rev Up Motor.
On the other issue of HP for the 2002 model, bro, when you dynoed, the figures you got, are they on wheel HP or on crank HP.
For example in the case of the Dyno at GT Auto, it is on wheel HP.
I can show you a dyno chart of a RA R

Those figures are on wheel HP.
Manufacturers are quoting on crank HP, which is much higher than on wheel HP, typically you are looking at a 20% loss on drive train, for Auto's is even worse.
So based on your figure 253HP on wheel, you would be looking at 316HP on Crank which is even higher than the new 300 BHP Rev Up Motor. And if you are getting 280HP on wheel you would have
350HP on Crank (Awesome)
I hope that made your day:idea:
The price of unregistered 2004 350Z T Auto is about RM160K
I hardly see any 2005 / 2006 Unregistered Auto's around.
If any of you bro's see, one, tell me.
James

james, there are few (3 when I asked) unregistered 2005 auto version ST (full spec) at Naza Auto Mall priced at 189k. Less than a month ago they told me they mostly import 2005-2006's and nothing before 2005. Some other places I've checked don't have the right one for me, mostly pre-2005.

From my reading, the drivetrain loss of 350z manual version is at average 18% and auto is higher at 23%. So it makes sense that the new rev-up 300bhp should give the following WHP at average:

manual = 246whp (18% drivetrain loss)
auto = 231whp (23% drivetrain loss)

Unless you're planning to make it a track car only, go have a look at facelifted ST version and compare them. They are so much nicer in addition to the extra power. :biggrin: That may justify the higher price tag. Also, version T doesn't come with Brembo so if you're after power and performance only, version S may be the one you seek.

Version S = performance
Version T = luxury
Version ST = both

Thanks SNX,
But most of the 350 Z Auto's are brought in in T Spec and not ST and don't come with the Brembo's.
Ok, but I will check out the 2005 post cars in Naza.
I was with my mechanic last night and he told me that the auto gearbox of a 350 Z is expensive. At one time Sun Eng Hup wanted RM18K for a second hand gearbox.
Told me to refrain bringing Auto Z on track or for that matter all Auto's.
You can imagine the stress going to the car, for example on the straights, you could be doing 200KMH+, then brake hard into Turn 1, then down shift from 5th to 4th gear, no heel and toe because its an Auto and then 3rd plus eventually 2nd gear just before the Apex of Turn 1.
Sounds painful!
My main problem is that my GF wants to share this 350Z and she can't handle a manual.
That is why, I may not want to sell my Subaru on buying the Z, so I would end up with 3 cars,
Z, WRX & RX8.

Any one tracking a Auto Z.
You would probably need;
Oil Cooler, Transmission Cooler.

Ah, can't help you on that one. I was only interested in the manual so very uninformed about the auto box.

Hope to join you at Sepang soon! :driver::biggrin: I'm still waiting for my 2005 manual to arrive. Should be in 2 weeks. :banghead:

Great, once you get your fairlady, we can all meet up. Looks like you guys are very informed on the Z. These info are useful as most of us do not know about all the various specs.

The plan is to meet up on the 9 January 2009. So..... hope your cars would be ready by then. Cheers.
