Maybe later, now converting one of them from 4.17 to 3.823

Converting final drive to smaller ratio ? Does this compromise the pick up coz it will have longer legs on every gear change..

Yup, a bit not much. b4 I bought the final drive did do some study, at first I plan to go with 3.611 but think I may over kill so in between is 3.82 and the different between 1 to 3 gear is around 1 to 2 km different in speedo meter so would cause huge impact on it. :)

the closer gear ratio, the faster it will finish a 400m drag race..

save fuel?

i'm not a technician or anything.. but from what i know, the lower the final drive will effect in the higher engine rpm at cruising speed

for example.. (this is not an actual figures.. just to show example)

4.17 final drive : 100km/h @ 3000rpm
3.82 final drive : 100km/h @ 3500rpm

so, how does it save fuel when u need to rev higher to get the same speed?

or.. am i wrong about this?

as what I know

Higher Final Drive: Faster acceleration, shorter gear shifting, lower top speed

Lower Final Drive: Slower acceleration, longer gear shifting, higher top speed

So yeah, I think D7zul is right.

Thanks for your info, the actual should be another way round

4.17 final drive : 100km/h @ 3000rpm
3.82 final drive : 100km/h @ 2500rpm

So it will save fuel, btw make sure your car always in good running condition too...

If you go for drag race with 4.47 and VQ30, that will make a lot of smoke.

To All,

My gearbox project finally success!!

The main objective behind this project is our A32 2.0 M/T can't get good FC. Full tank 65litre maximum only can reach 770km, and I found my previous A/T can easily get 850km (maximum I did was 980km with 65litre), and the main cause for M/T is always the high gear ratio in 5th gear.

Few thing I need to share to who driving A32 M/T like me, you have few cheaper way to do the thing I did.

As you all know many Nissan car using the same gearbox (RS5F50A/C) and the best thing is RS5f50A/C have different final gear ratio 4.47, 4.17, 3.823 & 3.611

So far I know A32, A33 and U13 are all sharing the same gearbox RS5F50A/C

Option A (Cheapest for all M/T Driver)
1.) Get a U13 SR20 (bluebird aka altima) M/T gearbox
2.) Change the bell house, all the part inside are same
This may cost you less than RM2000 (gearbox + workmanship + part)
Estimate time spend: 2 week max.
Risk: If you lucky enough 3k rpm=120km/h, if not 115km/h, that's it

Reason: this u13 SR20 gearbox 1st and 2nd gear ratio is higher than our A32 M/T and the best thing is 5th gear ratio is lower than us, that's mean your A32 can get faster acceleration in first and second gear and yet better FC in 5th gear(115~120km/h compare with A32 105km/h in 3k rpm).

Option B (Expensive with risk but less headache and fast result)
1.) Go ebay get a year 1995~ 1999 Altima M/T (RS5F50 model) post + Tax estimate around RM3000~4500
2.) Same as first option change the Bell House
This will cost around RM6500 or higher
Estimate time spend: 1 month to finish the whole project
Risks: the gearbox may not pass through our beloved custom even we paid the tax, please don't ask why.

Reason: this Altima gearbox have the final gear ratio of 3.611, it will give better fuel consumption for our VQ2.5/3.0, from 4.47 drop to 3.611 with 5th gear ratio 0.740 you can easily get 135~140km/h in 3k rpm) Acceleration is slower but better FC

Option C (a bit of headache and expensive but a confirm result)
1.) Place your order to Courtesyparts USA for the final drive 3.823 or 3.611 (with post and tax charges around 2.5k)
2.) Place an order for a set of RS5F50 rebuild kits in ebay (with post and tax charges around 1k)
3.) Buy 2 gearbox A32 and U13 (around 2k)
4.) Work with your mechanic and get the thing done (priceless)
Estimate time spend: 1 month project, but i spend 2 years
Risk: so far no

Reason: Can get what you plan and most important is the knowledge and experience along the way.

To all who want to try this out, one thing you need to know is you need to give away some of your engine power and get a really good gearbox mechanic, especially who want to try the option B & C

Here are the gear ratio for A32, U13 and my "mix&match" gearbox

What about other components to get the gearbox working like clutch paddle, clutch pump, flywheel, gearshift ,clutch plate, etc? What are the compatible item which we can get from other cars? Sorry for asking as mt Cefiro is super rare in Malaysia. Thks.
