A new era of engine manufacturing in Malaysia was officiated as Perodua and Daihatsu partnered on a RM500 million investment joint-venture. Daihatsu Perodua Engine Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (DPEM) opens their engine manufacturing plant in Sendayan, Negeri Sembilan.

The manufacturing plant is the second manufacturing facility invested by Daihatsu in Sendayan after building a transmission plant, Akashi Kikai Industry (M) Sdn Bhd in July 2015, with the objective of setting up powertrain facility hub in the country.

According to DPEM Chairman, Tan Sri Asmat, with both DPEM and Akashi Kikai now online, they hope to be able to offer a comprehensive engine component solution to other automotive OEM (original equipment manufacturers). He added that to this date, they have secured 2 other OEMs for its products and is currently looking for more prospects to supply their engine components to.

The plant’s capacity is at 216,000 units per year and has rolled out 35,000 engines since its commission with over 90% of them going to Perodua. The manufacturing facility has a land area of 35 acres and a plant area of 5 acres, consisting of 202 workers, complete with amenities such as prayer room, canteen, locker rooms and hostels.
