Evo Malfunction Indicator Light show ?

Anyone could give me advice, 2 days ago I try my Evo 8 performance.
From Gear 1 to Gear 2, then gear 2 to gear 3, I pedal like 6~7k RPM, suddenly I saw Malfunction Indicator Light show, I immediate change to gear 4, but lower the RPM, then the light goes off.
I wonder is that normal ? So far I haven't see the light on again, but I quite worry.
As I know, if u driving a VTEC Type R, and if your RPM too high, the indicator light will blind to warm you to switch to next gear level.
So, Evo 8 have this function too ?

its called shift lamp. all evo 7-9 has it

What do you mean on 'Malfunction Indicator Light'?
Or it is the Engine check light sign?

If the Engine check light while you on WOT (Wide open throttle)
Probably due to knocking while you 'pedal to metal'
On standard Evo, Revving Cut around on 7200RPM.
Or you might hit the Red line too long...

Anyhow DanzEterna, please share me more information, because I really never heard about Evo 7- 9 have "Shift Lamp" function (I assume same function for Vtec K20 car, which shift lamp on if RPM too high).

Probably due to knocking while you 'pedal to metal' - What mean?
If I not mistaken, 8MR redline is 8-9k RPM ?

'pedal to the metal' means flooring the accelerator.

usually for turbo cars not that high maybe bout 6.5-7k rpm.

no shift lamp here. 2003 8 gsr running stock boost, stock rom and caltex 98ron fuel.
regularly sees 6k rpm changes.

however, an aftermarket rom might have the CEL set to trigger as a shift light. Check evoscan and evom forums. I *think* I have read this before but for the life of me cannot remember where or when.

It's knock warning but it's only available on flashed rom...

For AFAIK, Evo 8 with flashed rom to have the knock warning, the CEL will stay on regardless any RPM, and it will only blink if knock is detected. For Evo 9, it's stayed off until knock is detected, then the CEL will start blinking if knock detected.

I see 7,800 RPM almost every time i drive my Evo.....

Evo rev cut at 7,800rpm

Beyond that is re flashed ECU or stand alone ECU setting.
