I've got little experience in dealing with modified and rare car (not so rare i guess). Currently i owned satria gti with mivec stuff inside. I can say nowadays mivec engine part is getting harder to get, but so far I still managed to maintained it. Maybe because lots of aftermarket parts and it's proton btw. LOL..

Caldina might be different i guess. Unless I go for zzt 1.8 model where it has the same engine as wish and altis. Correct me if I'm wrong. I heard for this zzt model, fuel consumption is good and easy to maintain. But i'll loss the performance. I've been sitting in GT4 before, n I would say the comfortability is not bad.

i would vote for GT4 since my older bro use to drive it.. keep it stock if u want better FC as they have better FC than stock airtrek turbo. they handle almost like a sedan. nowdays many workshop do maintain and repair caldina and even have caldina specialist around malaysia. parts still available as halfcuts still new but not that hard to find.

FD is a non performance sedan. its build for family with low FC and emission. better FC than caldina GT4 but i guess ZT also can get good FC.

But TS is mentioning about practical, cost effective and ease of maintenance. Wouldn't FD be having the upper hand against GT4 in these terms? And since he mentioned family, probably FD is more suitable because GT4 is more sporty oriented. Probably not as comfortable as FD due to stiffer suspension setup to handle the power from 3S-GTE?
Must mention in full, when u mention FD, I keep thinking of RX-7

Easier to maintain would be the Civic FD and ZT Caldina. But if GT4 so harder to maintain and is family car. I think the Civic 2.0L has sufficient power around 155bhp if not wrong.

i have never driven/sat inside any civic FD so i wouldn't know. however i do have a caldina ZT which i bought for my wife. sometime i use the car too especially during outstation trips. main purpose is to have a family car that looks good. FD looks good too but i think the ZT looks a little bit better due to the sexy body line. of course GT4 was the desired model but i already have 3 turbocharged cars in the garage so i think it's time to get sensible hehehe. quite happy with the performance, not that powerful but enough for 160-180kmh comfortable cruising on highways using ron95. sits 5 adults comfortably, with generous rear legroom (more legroom than my mom's W203). fuel consumption is good, low maintenance costs (but spark plug expensive), and big boot space for family outings. but u have to remember ur options, a 2010 car vs a 2004 car. the 2004 car will definitely cost a little bit more initially as it is a little bit older. when i got the ZT, it was not in good condition (cheapest car in mudah at the time) so i spent around rm3-4k to change all the wear n tear parts n the car has reliably served our family since. only thing now is the kong absorbers which will be replaced soon. other than that, i'm happy with the ZT. never regretted not taking the GT4 but my wife complained that why am i the only one with turbo n leave her with an NA machine hahahaha

Go for Civic FD 2.0. Since there are so many FD around the roads compared to Caldina, I'm sure that there are more spareparts available for it as well. In any case, you can still send it back to Honda service center if anything happens unlike Caldina where most of them are recond cars.
Agreed. But Caldina is a Toyota, not a Renault, so parts would still be aplenty. People like Wing Hin and Vision Auto would have parts.

For fuel consumption, I think FD had the advantage over Caldina as FD is using a 5 speed auto compared to Caldina which uses a 4 speeder. Caldina ZT will be cheaper to maintain and has better FC over GT4 because ZT is using a NA engine with FWD layout unlike GT4 where it uses a turbocharged engine with a 4WD layout.
True.

Performance wise, Caldina GT4 will beat FD for sure. As for ZT VS FD, I'm not too sure about it.
Most definitely.

BTW, FD will have the better potential for modifications if you got bored with it. You can choose to put in the K20A engine from DC5 Integra Type R or EP3 Civic Type R or FD2 Civic Type R along with their 6 speed manual transmission.
This I disagree - UNLESS you want to go track with the car - in which case you're better off buying a DC5R if you can afford it, or a DC2R if you can't. Finding a K20A is a problem, after you find it, the asking price is a problem. Even if you have a K20A, assuming you mod the FD2 to the level of a FD2R, it still does not excel in gunning it out on highways, it doesn't excel in straight line pickup, it excels and shines in corners, hairpins, technical back to back corners, etc. - Corners that you will not see on public roads. You get the drift.

If you are considering a 1.8 model of the Caldina, you are much better off with the facelifted Wish 1.8. Newer car, newer technology. Or the previous Wish 2.0, which is still a newer car than the Caldina -- plus it is officially supported by UMW Toyota.

Well, it is either ease and piratical over rare. I have VR, Sonata III and a Chery, all you rarely see in the market.....hahahaha:biggrin:

Yup, if based on practical FD2 is the choice.....:driver:
You're expert in car stuffs and good at using the internet. Sourcing for spareparts for your rare cars should not be much of a hassle for you.

This thread about Civic and Caldina, how come your mind can fly off to RX-7. That one usually people call FD3S.

:adore::adore::adore::adore::adore: to your wife. :biggrin:

My wife drives like a tortoise and can't stand all the blowoff noises. :bawling:
Agree with that blow off noise thing, not everyone likes it. I've even heard people saying that blow off sounded like farting.

This I disagree - UNLESS you want to go track with the car - in which case you're better off buying a DC5R if you can afford it, or a DC2R if you can't. Currently K20A halfcut is still expensive as it is still not that old yet. Probably after a few more years, it'll be selling like those B16B, B18C Type R halfcut. Well, K20A is not exactly that bad isn't it? It still has at least 220hp on it. If I am not mistaken, 0-100kmh time for FD2R is at around 6.2 or 6.3 seconds. Should be good enough unless the owner is really power hungry with their car. Don't forget the nice VTEC sound as well.

You're right about getting a 1.8 Wish instead of 1.8 Caldina. Since 1.8 Caldina is not really that much of a performance car already, might as well search for some other alternatives with better features.

There is a trend in price reduction for the caldina model recently as comapred to civic fd which i would say the price is quite stable, even for 1.8 model. Is it because of all the reasons above mentioned by bros here? Especially due to its high maintenance and spare parts availability.

And I believe the the fuel consumption actually depend on the way of driving. Heavy footed surely will cause high fuel consumption.

Overall FD is more popular and bigger market share where Caldina is grey imports....
