Normally regardless of what tyres, 5 years is usually the limit isn't it? Best not to push it longer than that as the rubber compound will harden.

Well, they removed the cracked putty away and I saw the bare metal area inside where it was grinded and welded before previously. No rust at all. Likely putty issue in this case.
Basically is 5 years, Michelin, I read somewhere they mention 6 years, but also got to see where. Hot climate like ours I doubt can go 6 years unless like you keep wira locked up in garage.....lol
My Goodyear Asy2 from EU, about 5 years, my GT Radial from Indonesia I would say 4 years they start to crack.

Performance gain is almost for sure but for FC, quite subjective. What I can say for my case is, I did not notice any increase in FC at all and it seems that I can somehow extract a few more km from each full tank. For my car, my low end torque improved a lot so if I want to drive it economically, it is easier to do so after the exhaust mod as I can keep the car going even at below 1500 rpm.

But do take note of what exhaust setup that you're going to do. If the setup is wrong, FC might not even improve at all.
OK... let me go look see, look see for a twin tip. Maybe need some tips from you where to fix and get the correct setup. FC not a concern for me since it is a weekend car. I don't even monitor... reach "Enough" then I'll pump. hehehe...

My Wira is not exactly locked up, still open air but shaded. Rarely under sunlight unless driven out during daytime.

The 2 Viking tyres on the rear of my Wira still looks quite good without any crack even though they had passed the 5 year mark. Thread still quite thick left.

To be honest, I didn't do any custom setup myself. I just bought the extractor and exhaust piping from exhaust shop and fit it in. Nothing custom, already manufactured for Wira usage. My extractor was made by Marco exhaust from Malacca which can be considered as a known brand locally. The piping is not branded. As for my twin tip, it was the original muffler from Wira 1.8 which I assumed should be good enough for my setup as the twin tip will surely allow more and quicker gas flow from the muffler compared to the original single tip muffler. Another benefit is, the twin tip seems to suit the car well without looking too riced up and it is almost as quiet as any stock car during idling. Kept my car looking low profile.

Now my Wira is also a weekend car for me. I only pump petrol once a month or two months. Rarely driven now.

VR2Turbo did mention that the issue is probably related to size and weight of car. Don't think too much about it la. And I'm not a smooth driver. hahaha
ok bro... no worries.. so can start taking fast cornering again... hahaha....
now, all my 3 cars on Hankook:
viva-optimo meo 2 (lady driver, no worries)
satria-kinergy (mine to drive everyday)
2.5 camry-s1 noble (long distance only) I really like the thread pattern of MC6, but no budget la.. later2

A lady ex colleague owned a new car for 5 years plus. One day I told her, that her car tyres shows signs of crack and even though still have plenty of thread pattern, it is better that she changed them. She replied then her husband is about to get her a new car, so end of story. But about 2 months later she came and told me this. Her new car came and traded in her old one. The salesman who came to collect the old car from office, drove it off. Half way one of the tyre burst, so she just came to inform me about my warning to her....lol. Actually she drives her car from home to office and back which is a short distance only, that is why after 5 years tyres still plenty of thread pattern. The tyre burst was on the federal highway, where speed was faster and tyre sidewall flex more.....:smokin:

My XM2 also still has thick thread after 6 years, but crack is everywhere already. Takut to drive already... thats why cepat2 tukar. Still willing to be on new Hankook than cracked Michelin...

Sounds very scary and dangerous as I drive quite fast in my Wira whenever I drive it out... But I don't see any signs of tyre cracks yet, does that mean it is still safe for now?

bigger concern would be the compound... after 5 years they harden...

i changed my Viking although the thread is like 90%. But it is harden. I can feel the car is sliding when I'm taking corners. Not going to bet it. At the tyre shop I told the mechanic he can have it for his car since same size. After he saw the tyre manufactured year is 2014, he said "i pun tak berani pakai... ada hal susah... cantik tak guna"

maybe... 2 tyres at same age, but 1st is rarely driven and 2nd one is always driven, the 2nd one has less possibility to explode since the rubber is not really harden the same way as the one that stay still for looong time. both are still harden, but the first one will harden and become brittle. hit a big bump and explode to pieces already. frequent driven tyre will be less brittle because the rubber flexes every now and then.. dont know, just my theory. thats why old tyre, looks good, thick thread, maybe less crack, but very dangerous

Yup, as the rubber compound hardens with age and heat, there will be fine crack lines around the tread pattern. This is still safe but traction with be less. If the sidewall have fine crack lines appearing, then it is time to change them.
Also keep the tyres inflated at the correct pressure. Any low air pressure will flex the tyre sidewall more and this can cause it to explode.....

This is exactly like my lady ex colleague, since low mileage, after 5 years still plenty of tread pattern, but rubber compound harden......

I remember back then when I was using the old Achilles normal range tyres in my old Wira and they lasted 3 years pure city driving, thread was still very good and everything seemed good. Stupid tyre had a damn high threadwear (something like 400 or something). One day I drove it on the North-South highway and it exploded just when I hit 120km/h. Thank god I didn't lose it and crash into something. Swapped out the spare and went to Nilai to change to the Bridgestone MY02 cuz it was the only one they had.... another blundering idiotic mistake.
