Sounds very scary and dangerous as I drive quite fast in my Wira whenever I drive it out... But I don't see any signs of tyre cracks yet, does that mean it is still safe for now?

bigger concern would be the compound... after 5 years they harden...

    if daily driven still ok.
Compare to my colleague, car less driven, tyre still look new after 4-5 yrs. One time he drive on highway tyre explode to "pieces".

i changed my Viking although the thread is like 90%. But it is harden. I can feel the car is sliding when I'm taking corners. Not going to bet it. At the tyre shop I told the mechanic he can have it for his car since same size. After he saw the tyre manufactured year is 2014, he said "i pun tak berani pakai... ada hal susah... cantik tak guna"

maybe... 2 tyres at same age, but 1st is rarely driven and 2nd one is always driven, the 2nd one has less possibility to explode since the rubber is not really harden the same way as the one that stay still for looong time. both are still harden, but the first one will harden and become brittle. hit a big bump and explode to pieces already. frequent driven tyre will be less brittle because the rubber flexes every now and then.. dont know, just my theory. thats why old tyre, looks good, thick thread, maybe less crack, but very dangerous

Yup, as the rubber compound hardens with age and heat, there will be fine crack lines around the tread pattern. This is still safe but traction with be less. If the sidewall have fine crack lines appearing, then it is time to change them.
Also keep the tyres inflated at the correct pressure. Any low air pressure will flex the tyre sidewall more and this can cause it to explode.....

This is exactly like my lady ex colleague, since low mileage, after 5 years still plenty of tread pattern, but rubber compound harden......

I remember back then when I was using the old Achilles normal range tyres in my old Wira and they lasted 3 years pure city driving, thread was still very good and everything seemed good. Stupid tyre had a damn high threadwear (something like 400 or something). One day I drove it on the North-South highway and it exploded just when I hit 120km/h. Thank god I didn't lose it and crash into something. Swapped out the spare and went to Nilai to change to the Bridgestone MY02 cuz it was the only one they had.... another blundering idiotic mistake.

Many brands will come out with a cheap version of low end UHP just to make sales.
Another bad one is the Falken ZE-522......lol

These are how my current tyres look like. Planning to go a bit far out of Ipoh next week, wonder if it is okay? Not using highway but trunk roads. I think there are some tiny fine crack lines around thread pattern.

    Looks like 4 yo tires?

I will change them, esp those viking is like a slick tire in the rain when it harden.
The viking on my blm got plenty of thread left but already 4yo...damn noisy and bad in the rain..easily skate on the surface.
