The Toyota 86 is the shining birth child of the marriage between Toyota and Subaru, and it seems like this brand-new sports coupe will be with us in the motoring scene for years to come. But is seems like that is not the only collaboration that Toyota is going to be indulging in as they had just recently announced their expansion in their partnership with another automotive giant, the BMW Group.

Back in December last year, Toyota had already begun working together with BMW for a research on the next-gen of lithium-ion batteries. But this new expansion goes to a greater depth as both of the companies has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a long-term collaboration in the fuel cell system, powertrain electrification, lightweight technologies and the development of a future sports car!

"BMW and Toyota both want to make ever-better cars. We respect each other. And I think this is shown by our taking the next step only six months since the signing of our initial agreement. Toyota is strong in environment-friendly hybrids and fuel cells. On the other hand, I believe BMW's strength is in developing sports cars. I am excited to think of the cars that will result from this relationship", said the President of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), Akio Toyoda.

Looks like even with the green movement gaining huge momentum, Toyota still has its eyes fixed in making some new sports car for the future. Since the 86 was born with the collaboration with Subaru, will this one be spelling the birth of a new generation of the Celica? Or probably the mighty Supra?
