Few months ago, prior to New York Auto Show, Jaguar has borrowed the city's iconic Park Avenue tunnel to exhibit (or break the silence in) Jaguar's new F-Type SVR coupe.

The blast through the tunnel was to highlight the new lightweight Titanium and Inconel exhaust system that is tuned to give a sharper, distinctive rumble of its V8 engine.

    What's new?

With an uprated engine - now producing 567hp - the F-Type SVR has been engineered with only two things in mind; power and speed.

Every detail on the car work together to achieve the goal of 200 mph (322 km/h) top speed while offering sheer driving pleasure.

    Exterior

The SVR gets aerodynamic treatment such as a front splitter beneath the grille, rear venturi (diffuser) that manages airflow along the underside and a deployable rear spoiler that actively rises at speeds to provide downforce. The deployable door handles also create a smooth, uninterrupted airflow along the car.

The headlights maintain a feline signature with sweptback and elongated shape while the the LED 'J' blade DRL helps in giving proper presence during day-time.

The headlights is also equipped with optional Adaptive Front Lighting System with Intelligent High Beam Assist. The system automatically alters the low and high beam according to situation as well as swivelling the headlights by up to 14 degrees out and 7 degrees in, for improved visibility in corners.

Its tail lights are slim and sweep around the side of the car, giving a sense of width and beautifully-dynamic proportions.

Striking 20" forged alloy wheels completes the SVR's aggressive look while providing 13.8kg overall weight saving. The wheels are wrapped with a set of Pirelli P-Zero tyres, and the rear rubbers are wider by 10mm than the standard F-Type tyres.

There are also three choices of coupé roofs for the SVR:

    • Aluminium roof - body-coloured, pure coupĂ© look, strong and lightweight
    • Panoramic glass roof - full width, introducing more natural light and airness into the
      cabin
    • Carbon fibre roof - 20% stronger and lighter than the aluminium roof, helps in overall
      driving agility
    Interior

The SVR's interior highlights a clear and simple instrument cluster arrangement
featuring two large analogue dials and three-spoke steering wheel design.

Customization does not end on the exterior, as it goes into three selection of sports seats, where driver may tailor it to different textures, colour combination and materials.

Although the SVR is a performance-oriented F-Type, being a Grand Tourer, it is still granted with up to 408-litres of boot space.

Other interior features include active central aircond vents, paddleshifters, configurable ambient lighting and Suedecloth-wrapped instrument panel topper as well as SVR-badged steering wheel.

    Powertrain

The engine in the F-Type SVR is a lightweight, supercharged 5.0-litre V8 with an output of 567 hp, making it the most powerful F-Type to date.

To ensure the power is transferred efficiently to the pavement, the SVR is equipped with AWD system, and an 8-speed automatic transmission in between. The Torque Vectoring system also helps in maximizing the car's turning capability.

Jaguar's most powerful GT is partnered to (guess what) Jaguar's most powerful brake; the exclusive Jaguar Carbon Ceramic system, that also offers up to 21kg in weight savings.

What's a sports car without proper soundtrack, right? The SVR's Switchable Active Exhaust system is made of lightweight Titanium and Inconel, giving it an outstanding and dramatic sound.

    Infotainment

The Jaguar F-Type SVR is well-equipped with onboard InControl features which include:

    • InControl Remote - SOS Emergency Call, Breakdown Call
    • InControl Remote App - monitor and interact with the car via smartphone
    • Incontrol Secure - detecting unauthorised movements of the car
Also standard on the SVR are navigation, DAB digital radio and Jaguar Sound System with 6 speakers.

    Safety

    • Occupant Safety - four airbags and with advanced pre-tensioners
    • Roll-over Protection Bars
    • Blind Spot Monitor with Closing Vehicle Sensing - warns the driver on approaching
      vehicles from behind
    • Emergency Brake Assist
    • Pedestrian Contact Sensing System - industry-leading system that is designed to
automatically raise the bonnet to help cushion a potential impact
    • Park Assistance

If only Jag made cars this good during the earlier lazy days. It would be such a contender today
