'Interesting' Istanbul front wing for Toyota

http://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=127617

22 August 2006
Toyota senior general general chassis manager Pascal Vasselon has warned that his team's cars will feature an 'interesting' aerodynamic development on the front wing when they emerge from the garage in Istanbul on Friday.

"Toyota heads to Turkey with an interesting aerodynamic development around the front wing so we will hope to benefit from that as we seek a strong result in the race," said Vasselon.

He also warned about the challenge teams will face selecting the right tyres, "Most of the simulations done by the teams before last year's event underestimated how quick it would be. You can reach speeds of 250kmh and it is very tough both for the driver and the tyres. The tyres have to be hard enough to cope with that corner but you still have to compromise for the generally low grip of the asphalt. Brand new tracks do evolve a lot so we will have to see how much the asphalt has changed since last year."

Istanbul engine preview
22 August 2006

Istanbul is a varied circuit for the engine. Almost 65% of the lap is spent at full throttle, which is an average value for the season. Teams need a tractable engine, with good top speed for overtaking on the main straight, but without compromising low end performance. Teams also look carefully at power delivery at high revs, which will make turn 8 easier to negotiate.

Temperatures in Turkey are expected to be extremely high, but this should not pose any problems for engine cooling. At this stage of the season, teams fully understand the cooling needs of the car, and there are no slow sections in which the engine might risk overheating. Furthermore, the long straights will ensure the engine is well cooled.

FIA Court: Mass dampers are illegal
23 August 2006

The FIA International Court of Appeal met in Paris on Tuesday, August 22, 2006, to examine the appeal made by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile against Decision No. 8 handed down by the Stewards of the Meeting on July 28, 2006, concerning the T car of competitor Mild Seven Renault F1 on the occasion of the Grand Prix of Germany and counting towards the 2006 FIA Formula One World Championship.

Having heard the explanations of both parties and having examined the various documents and other evidence, the Court quashed decision No. 8 of the Stewards of the Meeting and ruled that use of the device known as a Tuned Mass Damper is an infringement of Article 3.15 of the Formula One Technical Regulations.

With regards to Renault's livery, EU bans tobacco sponsorship and hence Renault had to come out with different livery.

Turn 8 of Istanbul Speed Park looks awesome. Some drivers have commented that turn 8 is as tough and as challenging as Eau Rouge of Spa Francochamps circuit.

I think it would be a close fight between Schumi and Alonso. But if both of them DNF like in Hungary, probably Kimi would win it.
