Esprit the only new Lotus currently under development

Many were wondering if Lotus bit of more then they could chew at the Paris motor Show by unveiling five new concepts that were to make it to production over the next four years.

And in a small one-up for the naysayers, Autocar indicates that only one of those five concepts is actually currently undergoing development, and that would be the Esprit.

Quoting Lotus insiders, Autocar says that the Esprit is the only one undergoing full development as of now and is set to be the first of the new-generation of Lotus models to see the light of day.

While somewhat sticking to the Lotus mantra of light and simple, the Esprit still weighs in at a shadow under 1.5-tons. While that may not seem like an anorexic car, it does still weigh in reasonably lighter than its peers. Keep in mind too that it will be powered by a 550hp supercharged V8, giving it a power-to-weight ratio well within the Lotus mantra.

The Esprit is also one of Lotus’s ideas to more than double sales from 3,000 units a year to 7,000 units. On paper, the five concepts look more than capable of living up to expectations but the question dos remain, for a company of Lotus’s size, is the jump in sales units a bit too wide? Lest we forget, the next round of models will also be significantly higher up the money scale.

All the new Lotus designs look very nice.
Btw wrong title, should be the Esprit, not Elise.

I think Lotus is diluting its core values in this attempt to chase dollars. The styling is nothing groundbreaking either, in my view. Hope Dany Bahar knows what he is doing otherwise he, Lotus Cars and Proton are screwed.

I think Lotus should focus on its established mantra. It's the only thing that sets it apart from the rest.

Trying to win over Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo buyers will be quite a challenge.

Nice design...but there's a bit of Lambo here and there.

Copycats? or just sharing design cues?

Keeping it below 1500kg with that sort of power will be very interesting...
