From dusk to dawn and 12 hours later, the chequered flag has waved the 2010 Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race to an end with the Arrows Racing Team claiming a new total lap record on the way to overall victory by the narrowest of margins over newcomers and works team Audi Racing Experience Team Joest.

The Arrows Racing Team, piloted by Tunku Hammam Sulong, Peter Kox and Christopher Haase, clocked in 315 laps on their way to victory in the GT Class as well as the overall victory. Consistency was the key to their success and a major part of it was the Lamborghini LP-560 the team piloted that was prepared by Reiter Engineering.

Hot on the exhaust fumes of the Arrows Racing Team’s raging bull as the Audi works team that, although kicked off the race with literally a baptism of fire when their R8 LMS caught fire on the starting grid, managed to keep their calm and slowly but steadily work their way up the grid to second spot, eventually finishing just a lap of the Arrow’s Lambo.

It was a case of both extremes of the emotion scale for last year’s defending champs, the Petronas Syntium Team. Although one of their BMW Z4 M’s took the final podium spot with Nob Taniguchi, Masataka Yanagida and Imran Zaharias Shaharom behind the wheel, the team’s other car gave up the ghost with the chequered flag on the horizon, having completed 275 laps.

A number of notable non-finishers in the GT Class include the KK Performance Team that had former Malaysian F1 driver, Alex Yoong, in its line-up. The team were running as high as second during the early stages of the race.

In the Sports Production Class, Japanese team Tracy Sports took the honours in their Honda S2000 ahead of the Porsche GT3 of Team JPM Dragon I. Third spot went to BTB Racing and their Lotus 2-11.

There was indeed heartbreak for some of the Sports Production Class teams with the Aston N24 of Mofaz Racing, driven by Lotus F1 test driver Fairuz Fauzy, his brother, Farriz Fauzy and Rizal Ramli, not finishing. There was some consolation though as the team’s second car completed the race fourth in their class.

Finally, in the Touring Production Class, Honda Malaysia Racing Team clinched overall victory yet again, leaving their opponents trailing seven laps behind. Playing bridesmaid was the HKS Garage R Racing Team with Team Brothers in Racing taking the final podium spot.

Although the Touring Production Class had the most number of entries, at the end of the day it also had the most non-finishers. This class was dominated by the Honda’s, with Civic Type-R’s and Integra Type-R’s running rampant but the Toyota side did have a strong contention with four Altezzas in the running. However, at the end of the day, only two Altezzas crossed the finish line although they weren't classfied with the remaining two not finishing. All the five finishers were wearing the feared red ‘H’ on the hood.

At the end of the day, it was yet another successful Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race that saw some familiar faces strengthen their hold while some fresh new teams managed to spring some pleasant surprises.

Sorry about that, misread the results sheet. Cars 36 and 37 did indeed cross the finish line but weren't classified. Thanks for pointing it out. Cheers.

Hi it's called a Mosler.

Keshy, Mofaz(Fairuz,Farriz,Rizal) entered a Aston Martin N24 in Sports Production class. Aston Martin DBRS9 was by Craft Racing in GT class, not Mofaz
