The underpowered cars totally outclassed the highpowered competitors in Class 1; showing that power was not everything in an endurance race. Team Ultra Racing Kegani Torco won the second edition of the Sepang 1000-kilometer Endurance Race at Sepang Circuit tonight; winning in sensational style in a 1600cc Toyota Levin machine as it upstaged the higher powered 1800cc cars.

Featuring Kenny Lee, Christopher John O’Shannessy and Hsiao Tung Wei, the team took eight hours 32 minutes and 1.455 seconds to cover 181 laps of the 5.543-km to cover the required 1,000 kilometers as it led another Class 2 entry – Type R Racing Team - to finish second overall.

Overall winner last year in a Class 1 1800cc Honda Integra DC2, the team of Boy Wong, Soh Kee Koon and Tek Kean Kang competed in a Honda Civic EK9 took second place for the class and overall; coming in one lap behind the Ultra Racing trio.

The partnership of Aloysius Lek, Teh Kian Boon and Desmond Soh of Singapore-based ST Wangan Racing Team took third place for Class C in another Honda Civic EK9. They finished third overall with 178 laps in the 1000-kilometer battle.

Class 1 for cars between 1601cc and 1900cc was won by the partnership of S. Velumani and Australian Kosi Kalaitzidis in a Satria GTi. They finished three laps behind Team Ultra Racing.

Goi Chun Kiat, Philip Pang Peng Ngiap and Mohd. Nizam Yazet was second in the class, while the final step of the podium went to the partnership Leong Chun Kee, Leong Chun Kok and Admi Shahrul Ahmad Saffian of Team Pole Position in a Satria GTi.

Introduced last year after the revamp of the 12-hour Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race (MMER), the race was flagged off by SIC Chairman Datuk Mokhzani Tun Dr Mahathir at 12 noon with 56 cars; beating last year’s grid of 52 cars. This years MMER would be held from August 5 to 8.

Not only lower in cc, Kegani's race cars, number 36, 37, 38 & 39 all enter the race without spoiler. Can I say aerodynamic not important in endurance race?

i would say due to low displacement...they opt to keep the aerodynamic drag lower....so fuel consumption at a manageable pace as well as allowing them to achieve higher topspeed from minimum drag....

or its just their style racing without spoiler....

sifus,

lately my manual gearbox having problem. can't stay at 5th gear. if push to 5th gear, it wont lock-in properly. after a while, it goes back to neutral. fyi, it's manual 2 wheel gearbox not the 4wd locked , running on evo1 engine.

any idea what would be the problem? syncro? any place recommended to repair rather than change the whole gearbox?

appreciate your help

thanks
