Since you don't like to have smell and want a shortcut, the only way I can think off is to wrap a towel over a steamer head and steam clean. Just water and dries faster then wet wash, but how fast it takes to steam clean the carpet depends on the model of steamer you have.

I have the entry level karcher one, I prefer to brush with a cleaner and then extract out with a carpet cleaner. Steam is too slow if I want to get it as clean as brush+cleaner+extractor. Since you are cleaning it once every 2 weeks, steam might just be the thing you need.

I tried steam cleaning before, but it isn't as good as those carpet bottled foam cleaners. Maybe it is my Karcher enduser model.

Steam/hot water extractor comes to mind....
Yes, like what stupidcar said. This completely slipped my mind. Hehehe. Gives me an excuse to go out and buy one...

Hmmm...and I thought cleaning carpets was as simple as spraying APC, scrub, rinse and hang to dry. I'm following this and there doesnt seem to be any smell/fragrance and what with our hot weather nowadays, it takes very little time to really dry.

Nothing beats a good scrub using washing powder and running water. The amount of black water coming out is scary.

But I have found a method when I'm lazy to do a full carpet wash. Steam clean carpet, spray AG Interior Shampoo, brush carpet, then steam clean again. Leave to dry, then vacuum carpet. I love AG shampoo because it leaves no smell behind.
