Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has announced the arrival of its latest hybrid offering, the new C 350 e, a sedan that packs cutting-edge hybrid technology, superior performance and efficiency. With certified consumption figures of 2.1 litres per 100km and being locally-manufactured in Mercedes' assembly facility in Pekan, the C 350 e is granted with EEV incentives.
The new C 350 e is the third hybrid model to be locally-assembled after the S 400 h in 2014 and the E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid in 2015, but it is the first model to from Mercedes-Benz Malaysia to feature plug-in hybrid technology.

A) Powertrain
The main powerplant of the new C 350 e is a 2.0-litre direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine that uses spray-guided combustion to precisely control multiple and fast multi-spark ignition. This high efficiency combustion system helps the 4-cylinder engine to produce 211hp and 350Nm of torque. In addition, there’s an electric motor - working together with the combustion engine – that adds up another 68hp and 250Nm, thus giving the C 350 e a combined output of 279hp and 600Nm.
Zerotohundred is achieved in just 5.9 seconds, with 250km/h top speed. The outstanding sports car-like performance comes with a remarkable fuel consumption figure of 2.1 L/100km. For emission-free driving, the C 350 e is able to be driven using its electric motor only, with a range of up to 31km.
Transferring the power output to the rear axle is a 7-speed 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission, with different settings that suit the driver’s driving style.
The transmission modes available are:
- E (Economy) – all-electric mode and engine shut-off are possible, ECO Assist activated
- C (Comfort) – comfort-oriented settings, performance and recuperation optimized for comfort and consumption, engine shut-off possible up to 130km/h
- S (Sport) – enhanced boost performance, sporty gearchanges, active combustion engine, stiff suspension and damping settings
- S+ (Sport +) – provides maximum boost, very sporty gearchanges, active combustion engine, stiffer suspension and damping settings
- I (Individual) – driver will individually configure the transmission mode including drive system, chassis and suspension, steering, ECO assist and climate control.
Storing the C 350 e’s electrical energy is a high-voltage lithium-ion 2.6kWh battery that is water-cooled and weighs around 100kg. The battery can be charged from and external power source and is mounted in a sheet steel housing underneath the rear axle to enhance crash safety, driving dynamics and maximize boot space. Boot capacity is rated at 335 litres and up to 1370 litres with its rear-seat backrests folded down.
Together with selectable transmission settings, the driver can also influence the operation of electric mode and the use of combustion engine via a switch in the centre console. In the Eco and Comfort transmission mode, the battery can operate in these modes:
- Hybrid – all hybrid functions are applied according to the driving situation and in the most fuel-efficient manner
- E-mode – all-electric driving
- E-save – charge status of the battery is remained, electric driving and boost function are limited
- Charge – allows the battery to be charged while driving using the combustion engine, all-electric operation is not possible, fuel consumption may increase
Similar to other C-Class models in the lineup, the C 350 e offers an array of safety features which include ATTENTION ASSIST that warns the driver of inattentiveness and fatigue as well as COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS that can enable preventive measures should the driver is not aware or fails to react to dangerous situations.
Elsewhere, the C 350 e is also equipped with AIRMATIC suspension and optional pre-entry climate control that sets the cabin to desired temperature before setting off. The car also gets LED Intelligent Light system with Adaptive Highbeam Assist which enables permanent high-beam settings during night driving as the system uses individual LED to adjust illumination accordingly without blinding oncoming drivers.
