Also reported in today’s news write ups is Mclaren’s new P11, that and this Mercedes SLC/Gullwing are the products of their respective manufacturers as their collaboration comes to an end.

The new Mercedes SLC/Gullwing is said to have its eyes or headlights set on the Porsche 911 Turbo while costing 150,000 Euros. There are plans to produce both a coupe (C197) and a roadster (R197)  while the SLC will generally be smaller than the outgoing SLR.

Mercedes is also planning to use the SLC to introduce a new advanced aluminium spaceframe technology that contributes towards a target weight of 1650kg with 48% rear and 52% front distribution, this helps to make the SLC 45kg less than the SLR. Mercedes are also said to be in the midst of developing a new composite braking system which is lighter, stronger and fade resistant than the conventional set-up.

Sadly though, since it’s a Mercedes, it must have the family’s genes in the design language and in this case, the exterior design of the SLC is largely based on the Mercedes SL. But of course there will be certain design elements to tell them apart, the SLC will include roof-hinged gullwing doors, almost upright bi-xenon headlamps, LED tail lamps, a motorized rear spoiler, and a pair of downforce –producing front and rear aprons.

All that weight is shifted via AMGs 6.4 liter V8 that produces 550bhp and 445lb ft of torque, allowing the SLC to complete the century sprint in just 3.8 seconds and on toward a 185mph top speed with fuel consumption at 14liters/100km.

The SLC is very likely to debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show with the roadster to arrive a year later. Only 6,000 units of each model is planned for production and the SLC will stop production in 2013.

According to automotive world.com, Toyota could announce the arrival of the all new Toyota Alphard today, 12th May 2008. No details are available yet, but one thing is for sure though, from a Transformers point of view, the first generation Alphard would be an Autobot and this second generation, clearly a decepticon. The second gen Alphard is said to be based on the Toyota FT-MV showcased at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show. The Alphard will have to battle it out with other great like the Mazda MPV, Honda Elysion, and Nissan Elgrand.

Codenamed P11, the first Mclaren since the F1 of the 90’s, it will reportedly hit showrooms in March 2010 as a coupe. We expect to start seeing the car in little over a year and a spider version a year after.

Aimed directly at the Ferrari F430 the Mclaren is said have already have an edge in terms of weight and size. The P11 is powered by a 550bhp V8 engine which is reportedly built by Mahle England. The engine is said to be based on an existing Mercedes unit.

Just as Ferrari has the Scuderia, Porsche the RS, and Lamborghini with its Superleggera, Mclaren will have its own version of a striped out, hardcore P11 codenamed, P12. According to sources, the P12 will be powered by a monstrous 600bhp V10 engine and is due to appear in 2011.

Chinese speeders went one up on the Chinese authorities when this plate switcher became available in the market. As a matter of fast, it has been available for a long time now, as a spy gadget, first seen in the early James Bond movie ‘Goldfinger’ used to keep the bad guys away, it seems it worked out to be pretty handy to keep the summons at bay as well. A basic remote controlled plate switcher costs USD115 but more sophisticated ones than get the job done in just three seconds cost over twice that amount. Anyone interested in importing it?

The organizers of the Malaysian Rally Championship have stepped up their efforts to develop rallying at the grass-roots level. They will be launching  a reality television program to find the next star rally team – driver and co-driver. To be called “Malaysia’s Next Rally Champion” the show will be aired from October to December 2008.

Calling all millionaires and billionaires, import the new SEAT Ibiza for us car lovers please. It looks gorgeous and we deserve gorgeous cars even if we have to sell a bladder or go crazy at a sperm bank to get our hands on it. Then we can start looking for a beautiful companion to fulfill our beautiful life. Just to get you interested, this car that you see here was first introduced as the SEAT Bocanegra Concept car (pictured below), which was a mean looking creature. So then came the gorgeous 5 door version of it, yes its beautiful but we still don’t have it here.

And now, the 3 seater has been confirmed and life is getting to look a little darker than before. And just to add salt to the wound, SEAT will be offering a twin-charged 1.4 TFSI Cupra hot hatch version that will feature more design cues from the Bocanegra Concept. So please, somebody, import it, I’m sure if its priced right, it’ll attract a whole lot of people. And while you’re at it, please try to secure the Alfa Romeo MiTo, the Renault Cleo Trophy, and the Volkswagen Scirocco would be nice too.

Singapore, 9 May 2008 – Since the launch of tickets for the 2008 FORMULA 1™ SingTel Singapore Grand Prix on 14 February 2008, Singapore GP has sold 82% of the tickets.

To date, a total of 83,000 three-day walkabout and grandstand passes have been released, in addition to the total 13,000 corporate hospitality and Paddock Club seats.

Of these, the Stamford, Raffles and Marina grandstands are sold out while Turn 2, Turn 3 and the Esplanade Waterfront grandstands have very limited or single-seat availability. However, there are still a number of good seats available in the remaining grandstands namely; the Pit, Turn 1, Padang, Bay grandstands and the newly released Esplanade Steps and Singapore Flyer Promenade Premier Grandstands.

People say that the GTR should be left untouched, it should be as pure as it was when delivered, every sort of modification should keep away and never ever think about tuning the engine. Well, then there are those that think otherwise, for them cars like the GTR are a base to more extremes. Not to say that the GTR is not good enough in its purest form but owners have their identity and this can be seen in their rides.

It is for that very reason that tuners like Arios of Japan exists, to answer the calls of personalization. And it has answered that call with a subtle touch, keeping things distinctively subtle. It uses products that include a new carbon fiber body kit comprising of a front lip spoiler, nose and engine covers and side skirts.

Arios has even gone to the extent of catering to those with a liking for a classic touch by swapping the R35’s front GTR emblem with the emblem from an oldschool Skyline GTR KPCG10. I’m sure those of you who do own R35’s are probably already thinking about a swap but you’re going to have to hold that thought as the Arios GTR is still a work in progress with further carbon fiber body parts including a new rear spoiler to be offered in the not too distant future. Might just be worth the wait as this probably is one of the best looking GTRs out there.

The new Perodua Nautica, which is brought in as a CBU unit from Japan and is based on the Daihatsu Terios carries a hefty price for a national car maker. The prices are listed below but for a little refresher, the Daihatsu Terios is powered by a 1.5 liter 3SZ-VE Dynamic Variable Valve Timing (DVVT) DOHC EFi engine that comes with a full time 4WD with a centre differential lock.

The same 1.5 liter 3SZ-VE in the 5 seater Daihatsu delivers 77kW@6000rpm to all four wheels with 140Nm of torque available at 4400rpm. The Toyota Rush is also powered bythe same engine and delivers 80kW (109PS)@6000rpm with max torque of 141Nm@4400rpm.

The Alfa Romeo Q-Tronic system has been a very popular addition to the Alfa Romeo Brera and Spider V6 models since it was introduced in 2006. An all-new generation of ‘self shifting’ 6-speed gearboxes, Q-Tronic is another innovative new transmission from Alfa Romeo which offers all the characteristics and functions of classic automatic operation (parking, reverse, neutral and drive) to the driver, or optionally by sequential mode through the use of a selector. Q-Tronic continues the brand’s tradition of using the letter “Q” to designate the company’s most sophisticated new technologies.

Adapting Autodelta’s supercharging conversion to incorporate the Q-Tronic V6 models has required evolving the system to take into account the constriction placed on the increased engine bay packaging demanded by the new transmission system. An all-new remap of the ECU has been developed by Autodelta to meet the new and individual characteristics posed by an automatic transmission and thus to allow the Q-Tronic to fully maximise and integrate the benefits of our supercharger system.

The Autodelta Brera J5 3.2 C Q-Tronic comes with all the features of the Model Year 2008 (MY) upgrade that was officially launched at Autosport International (Birmingham) in January. The Brera 3.5 3.2 C Q-Tronic thus delivers the increase in maximum power of 352 bhp and peak torque of 435 Nm, which allow for even stronger motorway overtaking capability. Performance is similar to the Brera MY with 0-100 km/h reached in 5.3 seconds while a top speed of over 260 km/h is easily achieved.

Alfa Romeo’s new Q-Tronic system uses a smart electronic control unit to optimise gear shifting, maximising efficiency of the engine, and to offer greater fuel economy and comfort by reducing the number of pulses felt by the driver. Q-Tronic also allows the driver the ability to maximise a sporty ride to his requirements by offering sequential gear changing: when the driver depresses the “+” button it automatically shifts up to the next gear, while pressing the “-” button reverses the progression. Unlike many rival systems, this overrides the automatic function, allowing the driver full control of gearchanging. Q-Tronic also offers a choice of two modes (“Sport” and “Winter”) in addition to the default setting. “Sport” resets the gear shifts to a higher rpm to allow a livelier ride while “Winter” mode maximises grip for when conditions are more hazardous, for example when the road is covered in snow.

Jano Djelalian says: “We’re delighted to be able to widen the Brera J5 3.2 C model range to encompass the Q-Tronic transmission. Alfa Romeo’s sequential transmission systems have always been very popular with our customers, especially Selespeed, and we have had a lot of demand put on us recently to make our supercharging conversion available to Q-Tronic version.”

Autodelta in Russia

The first Autodelta Brera J5 3.2 C Q-Tronic to be built has been delivered to a Russian customer. The full “J6” conversion, including supercharged engine, and upgrade packages for the chassis, suspension, brakes and electronics, was carried out by Moscow-based Alfa Racing, Autodelta’s sole Authorised Agent for Russia. For the first bespoke car incorporating Q-Tronic, Autodelta factory engineers were present to oversee the operation and to train Alfa Racing personnel.

Russia has rapidly become a strategically important market to Autodelta ever since the London-based design and tuning house began operations in the country in 2003 when Alfa Racing was appointed as its official Authorised Agent. Although a very niche market for Alfa Romeo until now, Russia has a very strong aftermarket tuning scene and a particular affinity for the Alfa Romeo brand which carries a prestige reputation. In line with Autodelta’s policy it carries out R&D in conjunction with the Authorised Agent to ensure that all work meets specific markets’ requirements. In particular in Russia this involves meeting the particular requirements of the local market’s fuel and all Autodelta models are fully prepared to meet these standards with no compromise to performance or economy.
