Super GT Teams Testing at The Suzuka Circuit – Honda HSV-10 Makes an Appearance
February 24, 2010
As the world of motorsports gears up for the start of the season, manufacturers and race teams are rushing to test their latest race weapons. Formula One teams are rushing to gather data and so are the Moto GP teams, some stages of rallying has already started and in Japan, the Super GT teams are also finishing up their testing phase.
Just this previous weekend, manufacturers got out to stretch their 2010 GT500 spec cars at the Suzuka Circuit, Japan. Every team that runs a GT-R was out on track alongside the 2009 Championship winning team Tom’s Petronas in the SC430 and also running alongside them was the brand new Honda HSV-10 cars.
As in any new test phase, there was drama and this time it was the HIS KONDO GT-R that caused a scare for the team when it spun off track, thankfully for the team there was no serious damage.
According to our source, Nismo had both cars and drivers out in the #23 and #230 GT500 GT-Rs with Motoyama driving the former and Treluyer in the latter. Apparently the GT-R’s are looking strong with the brand new 3.4-liter VRH34A V8 powerplants but all eyes are on the Honda HSV-10’s that are yet to be race proven, no one knows how they will fare in an entire season of racing. Check out the video above to see the teams running and the beautiful howl of the Honda’s. Read more

Last week saw two Japan Super GT teams travel to our local Sepang International Circuit to conduct testing in our unique weather. Though the event was open to public, not many made it to the circuit as it was a working day and travelling all the way there just for a few shots is not very tempting but nevertheless we know someone who loves the sport enough and travelled all the way there to view the test, here are his shots taken from the grandstand area. If you’re a SuperGT fan you would know that Team Petronas Tom’s drivers Jyuichi Wakisaka and Andre Lotterer took the overall GT500 win in their Lexus SC430 last year. They may have won that but I’m guessing retaining the title will be an even bigger feat for the team. Read more

2009 Sepang Drag Battle – Final Round
November 23, 2009

This past weekends round 5 of the Sepang Drag Battle was also the final round of the year. So a lot was expected of it plus round 4 had proven to be a thriller, there was no reason round 5 shouldn’t be. So I thought, but that’s not how it turned out. The recent daily onslaught of freak weather and heavy rain didn’t let up and Sepang International Circuit was not spared. The wet situations didn’t help the dragsters so the start time had to be delayed, and that didn’t help with the mood which sadly was quiet.

November 2, 2009

Round 4 of the 2009 Sepang Drag Battle was a great Halloween treat as driver’s tricked out their rides to conquer the 400 meter run. There were the usual suspects of Evo’s, Subaru’s, Honda’s and Proton’s in attendance but gracing the event were sub-10 second cars from Thailand that didn’t compete but were there to liven things up and the star of the show, also from Thailand, was of course the Goodyear dragster.
