Official: Audi A1 SportBack Concept Revealed (Updated Shots Live From Paris)

Audi today officially unveiled its second model to carry the A1 badge at the Paris Motor Show. Last year, Audi unveiled its first A1 concept the Metroproject Quattro Hybrid Concept and like the original, this year’s A1 Sportback also features a hybrid drivetrain.
Audi driver Scheider defends DTM lead

Ingolstadt/Barcelona – With a cleverly clinched second place, Audi driver Timo Scheider defended his overall DTM lead at Barcelona. Before the last two rounds, the 29-year-old German has a seven-point advantage over the Scot Paul di Resta (Mercedes) and thus the chance of securing the champion’s title early at the next race at Le Mans on 5 October.
In summer temperatures of 26 degrees in the shade Scheider won the starting duel against the quickest in qualifying, Bernd Schneider, and entered the first turn as the front runner. Up to the 19th lap he maintained his position in front of the subsequent winner, Paul di Resta, before the latter squeezed past the DTM leader with slight body contact. Scheider chose not to massively defend himself in order to keep from jeopardising his second place and thus the eight valuable points awarded for a second-place finish. Scheider thus managed the leap onto the podium for as much as the seventh time this year. Read more

Audi’s traffic-light (or stoplight if you’re so inclined) detection system, called Travolution could just end up being a revolution, somewhere along the line of air-bags and seat belts. But where those systems saved lives, the Travolution would save time and environment.

The Audi TT has always been criticized for packing less than convincing horsepower compared to its rivals such as the BMW z4 and Porsche Cayman. Apparently that is about to change as Audi are currently working at a high-performance TT version that will wear the famous RS badge. Audi A7 Coupe And Cab Revealed

As its arch rivals busy themselves with launch after launch of some of the most gorgeous cars in the world and if these rendering are to be believed, Audi is seemingly saving the best for last. Ingolstadt is expected to introduce the A7 Coupe and Cabriolet next year with sales to kick off in 2010. The A7 will be based on the next generation A6, which basically means it too will be built on a lightweight aluminium platform with various steel reinforcements. Read more
Audi develops race version of the R8

Ingolstadt – For the first time, Audi Sport will offer a racing sports car specifically developed for customer use in the form of the powerful 500 hp plus GT3 version of the Audi R8 which will be available from autumn 2009. The logistics and factory space required for the AUDI AG customer programme will be created over the next few months in Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm and Györ. Read more

The current generation Audi A8 or otherwise coded the D3 has been with us since 2003. Only receiving a few minimal facelifts, it’s rivals, the Mercedes S-Class, Lexus LS, BMW 7-Series and everything that falls within the same category have all but moved on past facelifts and onto new models already. That’s a fact but the truth is, the design will have to stay on for at least another two years as the next generation ‘D4′ A8 isn’t due to arrive until 2010. Read more
