Subaru’s version of the FT-86 to drop AWD laout

March 16, 2010

Toyota has already revealed the FT-86 while Subaru’s own version of the very same car still remains nothing but words, spy shots and rumours. And it continues with reports about development costs of the Subaru coupe that apparently have sky-rocketed to unbearable limits. To counter this, Subaru is purported to be dropping it’s legendary all-wheel-drive layout. If this turns out to be true, then the difference between the FT-86 and the Subaru Coupe will be limited to aesthetics only. Read more

A Tribute To The 555 Rally Impreza WRX

January 15, 2010

Subaru’s are synonymous with the WRC so it’s pretty sad that the blue rally machine won’t be tearing up world stages anymore since Subaru announced its withdrawal from rallying. In the video above, we go back in time to visit one of the most iconic and recognisable rally Subaru’s of all time and just to sweeten it up, there are no annoying soundtracks, just the pure sound of a boxer burbling past thousands of fans. Great time in the world of rallying indeed. Read more

Subaru Impreza WRX STI A Line Type S (3)

Last nights dinner topic was Subaru and the number of editions they have. We were talking about how hard it is keeping up with all the models they have churned out over the years and that you actually have to be a hardcore, die-hard, never say never Suby fan if you were to keep up with all the models on the road today. Just last week Subaru introduced the hardcore R205 and now we have a new model, the Subaru Impreza WRX STI A-Line Type S (try saying that fast three times). Read more

2011-Subaru-Coupe-01

We’ve already seen the Toyota FT-86 concept but hardly anything has been said or shown about the Subaru twin. Till now. Japan’s Best Car magazine has come up with these speculative renderings of the Subaru coupe and it’s looking good. Accompanying these images are rumours of the Subaru retaining it’s traditional all-wheel-drive setup and a turbocharged boxer engine.

If you’re not surprised by these rumours, lets go back to when Toyota and Subaru first announced they were working on a mutual model. The two Japanese automakers made it clear back then that both models will feature a rear-wheel-drive setup. Read more

Toyota FT-86 Testing At The Ring – Sounds Good, Looks Fast

October 20, 2009

Here’s a video of the FT-86 testing at the Nurburgring, and judging from the sound and the way it runs, it could just live up to expectations. It’s not clear whether the car in the video is the Toyota or Subaru version but considering the two won’t differ much, expect the duo to be quite similar. And if Toyota’s version does really go like the car in the video, then Toyota will truly be able to say its back in the business of fun. Read more
