McLaren and Top Gear have a special connection between them, like how the British supercar maker utilizes their Dunsfold Test Track in perfecting their MP4-12C Italia-eater. And with their new P1 hypercar being recently revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, it seems that we do not have to wait long to see the 903-horsepower hybrid being trashed around the famous test track.
McLaren said that the production version of their new hybrid hypercar, the P1, will look almost identical as the concept version unveiled over at Paris. While we have seen a lot of concept cars being toned down to a tame and restricted form when reaching the production lines, McLaren on the other hand kept their word.
Last year saw Gemballa’s take on the MP4-12C in coupe form, following that, they’ve then focused their attention upon the 12C’s Spider variant for this year’s Geneva Auto Salon in Switzerland.
McLaren swore that the P1 will the next big thing that had come from them, almost like how the legendary F1 did back in its days. But the F1 had a mighty 6.1-liter V12 powering it to the record books, while the P1 only had to make do with the same 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine found in the MP4-12C. Sounds like an impossible task to undertake? Not for McLaren, though.
Next month will have the Geneva Motor Show open their doors and many manufacturers are hard at work looking to create some hype about what they’re bringing to the show, but so are tuners looking to bring their goodies for all to see and get some attention headed their way too. One such tuner would be FAB Design, keen on showcasing their latest offering with the MP4 Chimera – obviously based on the McLaren MP412-C.
McLaren have not wasted any time in the development of their new P1 hypercar, and it seems that they are really looking into making it a rare gem on the roads. Holding a private event at Beverly Hills last week, McLaren gave their potential customers a sneak peek of what it seems to be not only the best creation that had ever come out from the British marquee, but could also be the best sports car in the world.
The McLaren MP4-12C is is by far one of the most advanced machines on four wheels that hails from Britain. However, the German boys at Hamann has decided to dabble with the Brits’ supercar adding on an intense looking kit that’ll definitely excite the senses, save their choice of colour; which seems to have down-played the MP4-12C’s over-all looks.
If you are familiar with the GT Asia series or even any GT race that took place at Sepang International Circuit, then the Team Clearwater Racing should not be a new name to you. Racing in the Ferrari 458 GT3, it is almost impossible to not notice this blisteringly-loud Italia passing by, bearing its iconic dragon livery on its sides. But it seems that 2013 will have a lot of surprises in store for them as for this year’s racing season, they will be switching to the all-new and proven McLaren 12C GT3 racing car.
Although they might not have a wide and diverse lineup, McLaren’s creations will always captivate and astonish the automotive world. The McLaren F1 is purely a speed machine that still wows today’s generation, and the MP4-12C is quickly rising above the ranks to be the best performing supercar there is. And with the P1 concept recently shown to the world at the Paris Motor Show, we are one step closer in actually having it rocking the automotive world as the production version of this new hypercar was recently unveiled at a private event in New York.
As with most European makes, they’re commonly associated with comfort, luxury, sophistication, technological advancement and then performance. But as of late – especially after last weekend’s TIMETOATTACK Finale for 2012, these cars came packing with brutish performance levels that seem to have bumped the ‘performance’ factor up higher in the list. The best part is that these cars still manage to retain a certain air of sophistication about them, even though it’s been plastered with stickers and their interior stripped to fit a roll-cage.
