Just mere months after unveiling the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, the engineers at Mercedes are back behind their drawing boards and this time they are reportedly hard at work with developing an electric version of the new supercar. In an interview with Autocar, AMG head Volker Mornhinweg assures that the EV super coupe is now being tested on the road and will hit all of its targeted performance objectives.

The electric SLS AMG will feature four individual electric motors that spin out 525 horsepower and 649lb-ft of torque via all four wheels. Combined, the electric motors are able to churn out enough power to propel the modern Gullwing from 0-100km/h in four seconds flat. The electric motors will be powered by three lithium ion battery packs that assure a range of 177km though all those cells will push weight up to a hefty 1815kg – 226kg more than the standard petrol-powered SLS. New 2010 BMW 5-Series Officially Revealed

November 24, 2009

It has finally happened, the all-new sixth generation BMW 5-Series codenamed F10 has finally been revealed. And in contrast to the current E60 generation which was characterized as being overly dramatic and baroque, the new F10 returns to a more graceful and conservative design reminiscent of the fourth generation E39, yet still aggressive and sporty. We are sure the F10 will win back a lot of alienated BMW fans from the previous Chris Bangle design era.

Report: Next Generation BMW M5 To Drop V10 Engine For V8 Twin-Turbo

September 30, 2009

bmw-v8

The BMW M5 has captivated generations of owners and fans. First with it’s straight six and then later on with the 400hp V8 in the E39, but the one M5 that has rocked the world of many is the current fire-breathing V10 M5. The engine that powers the current E60 M5 remains powerful and very very lovable but its time is up as the world is moving on with new CO2 concerns, fuel economy standards, and the economies-of-scale fact of the V10 not being available or stretchable to power anything else in BMW’s lineup.

So what next? According to reports, it seems as if the next-gen M5 will most likely find it’s way back to a V8 engine. In fact, this rumour dates as far back as May 2008 and recent speculation suggests that it could just be a twin-turbo V10 instead. But now Inside Line is reporting that BMW representatives have confirmed that a V8 will indeed power the next generation M5 – although they didn’t confirm which one.

V8 engine’s are already available in BMW engine line-up, like the 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 that powers the X5M and X6M. And with 555hp and 500 pound-feet of torque, it’s a match made in heaven for the M5 supersedan. It has already been confirmed that the next generation M3 will be turbocharged, so there’s good reason to believe that the next generation M5 could receive the same treatment.

So with the M5, six-cylinders were never enough, ten were too much and eight was just nice, now it’s just a matter of how much power. The all-new BMW 5-series is just months away, we won’t have to wait too long to find out. Read more

Design Study: BMW Lovos Concept

September 29, 2009

bmw-lovos-concept-18

A design study not by BMW but by a certain 24-year old Pforzheim University graduate by the name of Anne Forschner. She certainly has us wishing we took up automotive design back in university as her recent design has taken the limits of car design to a whole new, animalistic level, proving along the way that car design can be more than just what we’re used to. Dubbed the BMW Lovos Concept, the car can either look like a frightened porcupine or a very sleek fish thingy.
