The new 2016 Honda Civic might not have reached our shores just yet, but the manufacturer already has plans to make this seemingly docile car into a no-nonsense dirt-kicker. It seems that the Red Bull Global Rallycross will soon get another competitor as Honda has announced that they will campaign the 2016 GRC season with their new Civic Coupe.
Based on the production version of the Civic coupe, this racecar was developed by Olsbergs MSE and Honda Performance Division. You can tell that a lot of work has been poured into this machine as it now has over 600-horsepower in its disposal and with all-wheel drive fitted, zerotohundred takes only 1.9 seconds! Piloting this monster Civic will be Sebastian Eriksson and 2014 series champion Joni Wiman.
“Global Rallycross is seriously extreme racing, and it’s a terrific platform to showcase the new Civic Coupe to an enthusiastic, performance-minded young audience,” said Nick Lee, national advertising manager at American Honda Motor Co.
“We won’t encourage our customers to take 70-foot jumps out on the street, but we will use this platform to tell people about all the incredible technology and performance capabilities of our new Civic Coupe,” he added.
