You all have seen it. The Mercedes-AMG GT R is an absolute Green Hell beast that could tear the tarmac on circuits around the world.

Compared to the Mercedes-AMG GT it is based on, the most distinguished feature on the GT R is the aggressive intakes, fins and wings that address how track-focused it is. But in case you want to know more about the idea behind the GT3-inspired aeros on the car, Mercedes has released a footage explaining how the aero bits on the car act under the flowing air.

As explained by Mercedes-AMG Aerodynamics personnel, Dr. Gustavo Estrada, the GT R receives an increased number of drag coefficient (Cd) compared to the GT S. It also gets an active aerodynamic profile where a lightweight carbon element under its front bumper can be retracted at speed above 80 km/h, similar idea to the one on Porsche 911 (991) Turbo S.

Mercedes also utilized knowledge they gained from GT racing by applying large front intakes that work hand-in-hand with its rear diffuser, creating a significant amount of downforce.

Another active aerodynamic feature is the Active Air Control system that electronically-controls the vertical fins at the front apron; to reduce drag or to help with cooling effects, depending on driving situation.

The Mercedes-AMG GT R will be powered by the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, but with an increased in performance figures at 577hp and 700Nm of torque.
