Koenigsegg reveals the Regera in production guise with 1,500+HP!

1

It seems like on the 2016 edition of the Geneva Motor Show, a power fest is definitely one of the main highlights of this annual prestigious event. Just when we thought that the new Bugatti Chiron is the most powerful supercar we will hear of in the show with 1,479-horsepower, in comes Koenigsegg with their revolutionary Regera in production form.

This is not the first time that we have heard about the Regera as it was unveiled to the world a year ago. But back then it was known as the Regera Concept and there were a lot of little details that Koenigsegg has yet to share with the world. And after an “intense period of development, testing and homologation” which has resulted in more than 3,000 changes to the original model, the finalized Regera is finally here.

Unlike the Chiron that gets a massive 8.0-liter W16 engine, the Regera is only powered by a 5.0-liter V8 but with the assistance of three electric motors, they generate a combined output of more than 1,500-horsepower and 1,475 lb-ft of torque. Zerotohundred only takes 2.8 seconds, 6.6 seconds to reach 200km/h, and 10.9 to reach 300. With enough room, the Regera is said to be able to reach 400km/h from a standstill in just 20 seconds.

But the highlight for the Regera has got to be the unique Direct Drive system where it uses a “clutch-slip mechanism that uses the hydraulic coupling to convert torque at medium/high speeds during fast acceleration. This allows the combustion engine to gain revs and power, thereby giving the sensation of a traditional downshift with the associated aural enjoyment, even without the traditional gearbox”.

As for the time being, Koenigsegg has yet to reveal the price tag of the Regera but they did confirm that it has already received several orders from interested parties.
