Aside from treating supercars like drift machines at the Dunsfold test circuit, Top Gear is also well known to hold absurd yet entertaining races like the Bugatti Veyron vs Eurofighter Typhoon or the Nissan GTR vs the Japanese Public Transit System. Although it may be a while before Top Gear comes back with such a race, they are not the only ones who are capable to pull off such stunts.
In the blue corner of this challenge is Norway’s downhill skiing champion Aksel Lund Svindal and he is really at home since the arena for this challenge is the mountainous and snowy terrain of Lysefjord. Challenging him is Andreas Mikkelsen in the incredible Volkswagen Polo R WRC rally car and what lies in front of him is a 29-kilometer ribbon of tarmac that features 27 hairpins.
“The fjord, the steep mountainsides, the high snowbanks, the winding roads – driving here is a dream,” said Mikkelsen who was obviously excited for the challenge. Like most of the Top Gear challenge, Mikkelsen showed the roads who’s boss in the WRC machine. He even stopped halfway to pick up Svindal and continued the journey downhill in a very spectacular fashion. Now that’s what we call having fun!
