Ever since Renault Sport launched their new R.S. 01, it has been gaining attention from all over, wanting to know the capabilities of this new race machine. Lined up to compete in the World Series by Renault, the R.S. 01 will compete in its first ever race outside the series it was originally built for as the automaker announced that they will enter two cars for this weekend’s GT Tour Final 2015.
Scheduled to take place at Circuit Paul Ricard, the decision was granted by the French motorsport federation or FFSA through a GT3 balance of performance. In order for the R.S. 01 to race in the GT Tour series, the R.S. 01 has to go through a series of significant modifications which in other words, slowing the car down.
Instead of carbon brakes, the car now runs on those made from steel. The ride height was also raised and an engine restriction was added. The R.S. 01 will also compete with a 50kg ballast, in addition to the extra 25kg gained from technical changes. Lastly, the car’s aerodynamics were also modified in order to add drag and remove downforce.
Running the two R.S. 01 entering the race are Team Duqueine and Boutsen-Ginion Racing.
