In an interview with Motoring, Nissan’s Australia managing director Richard Emery said that the company “is not even talking about it” and the plans of a new GTR is not on the tables for the next few years. Since he said that there is no chance of seeing the R36 in 2018 or 2019, maybe 2020 is the best bet to see at least a concept building up.
There were reports saying that a GTR successor might be making an appearance in 2017 or 2018, but now we can shelve those reports and know that there will not be a new GTR until at least 2020. The development of the new GTR will also move from Japan to North America and Europe.
Other chatter involving the next GTR is that Williams will be involved in the R&D process and the R36 will also be available in a sedan form under the Infiniti badge. But these rumours might just stay as rumours, as how we saw the Q50 Eau Rouge being axed despite the attention it had gained.
