The days of seeing the new Honda Civic Type R on the roads are closing in as the first few units of this turbocharged machine had recently left the assembly line over in the United Kingdom. The first three units completed by the factory are dressed in red, white and blue as was received with open arms by the production and management staff from Honda’s European car manufacturing facility in Swindon, England.
“The new Civic Type R is an imperative model for Honda, representing our racing spirit and demonstrating our commitment to innovation and passion,” said Soichiro Takizawa, Honda of the U.K. Manufacturing’s Managing Director and at the same time thanked the staff members for their hard work in creating the British-built Civic Type R.
Earlier on, the Civic Type R will only be available exclusively for European customers. However, Honda had recently announced that they will actually bring this new hot hatch for sales to Japan as early as September this year. And this is no rumour either as it came straight from Honda’s new CEO Takahiro Hachigo.
As a recap, the new Honda Civic Type R is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine that develops 310PS and 295 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a six-speed manual transmission, zerotohundred only takes 5.7 seconds and has a top speed of 270km/h.
