Australia definitely has a special place in Subaru’s heart as they will get another special model made only for them. The new WRX STi NR4 Spec is designed to appeal to “enthusiasts and professional teams” and this motorsports-only model is FIA-homologated and eligible to compete in platforms like the FIA WRC2 and ERC2 championships.

We are not sure why Subaru Australia is keeping a tight lid on the specs of the NR4, but we are speculating that the 2.0-liter turbocharged four will at least be receiving a number of tweaks as well as some changes on the handling. However, the NR4 in the UK should be giving some idea of what the Aussie will be getting.

The UK’s NR4 gets 280-horsepower at 4,250rpm and 413 lb-ft of torque at 3,000rpm. It is mated to a five-speed dog gear transmission which sends the power to all four wheels via front and rear limited-slip differential.

Since the FIA regulations dictate that NR4-spec cars could not weigh less than 3,071 pounds, the interior has not been stripped out entirely. The carpet has been removed and replaced by a set of rubber floor mats, and the STI gets a three-spoke steering wheel, a pair of Sparco bucket seats and carbon fiber trim on the dashboard and center console. Buyers can choose whether they want theirs in blue or white, and they will need to install a roll cage themselves.
