Porsche announces the new 718 Boxster and Cayman to arrive early 2016!

Porsche had recently announced that the new Boxster and Cayman will be renamed and added the ‘718’ prefix in front. According to Porsche, the 718 designation is aimed to recall the ground-breaking Porsche 718 back in the late 50s as well as recalling the company’s history of offering a flat-four engine.

Back in 1958, the 718 RSK took class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, thanks to a powerful and fuel-efficient engine that pushes out 142-horsepower. They continue the legacy by using a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the 919 Hybrid LMP1 machine, and that gave Porsche the edge to grab both the manufacturer’s and driver’s championship titles in the World Endurance Championship.

Aside from the name change, Porsche also said that the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman will show more similarities in terms of design and performance. Porsche did not reveal much but reports suggested that the cars will be offered with 1.6 and 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines that could produce up to 286-horsepower.
