With Mercedes Benz unveiling more new cars into their line-up, it will only be a matter of time before their candidate in the DTM gets a piece of the action as well. It certainly did not take long as soon to represent the brand at the DTM is their new 2016 C63 DTM race car.

Like a car on a heavy dosage of steroids, this C63 has been transformed into a dedicated racer thanks to its complicated aero setup to keep it planted on the circuit. Keeping it close to the road car, it is still powered by a 4.0-liter V8 engine but power is restricted to 500-horsepower which is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox.

This new car carries many of the 2015 car’s internals, with design adaptations for the 2016 car which includes the new body, dynamic headlights and the twin blade grille found mostly on AMG models. Running on 18-inch wheels, this new race car has a minimum weight of 1,119kg. The new car will undergo testing during winter and will be the last of the V8s in DTM as the series is set to downsize to four-cylinder turbos as part of the harmonization of rules with Japan’s Super GT.

As for the Edition 1, this new model is scheduled to debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show and will come in the exclusive colour of Magno Selenite Grey with a contrasting yellow stripe package, similar to the C63 DTM race car. Powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, it gets 469-horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque while the S model is blessed with 503-horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque.
