For most, it would be a joyous occasion to know that the car they bought was driven or once owned by a celebrity. Heck, some may even to try and mark up the price for this ‘exclusivity’. But to one man in the United Kingdom, he would not be sharing the same sentiment as the car he just bought was actually driven by Jeremy Clarkson.

Rob Willis, 27, decided to treat himself and his family by taking purchase of a used BMW M3 for £50,000, which is about RM 324,000. Of course, it is considered as a great deal as a first hand M3 costs RM 730,800 here, but unfortunately the story does not end there as he then encountered numerous brake and steering problems.

“When I bought it, I was told it was an ex-demo which one of the managers had been driving. The brakes were constantly squeaking and the steering wheel made a clunking noise every time I came off the motorway,” said Willis.

A car driven by the manager but acts up like it has been hooned? At first this makes no sense, but not until when he watches a rerun of Top Gear with his fiancée where she pointed out that the M3 Clarkson was driving had exactly the same plates as the car he now owns. At UK when a car is designated with a specific plate, it stays with the car until the end which basically means the car Clarkson is destroying its rear tires in the show is the exact same car.

“It’s outrageous, I have an eight-year-old daughter and three young nephews whose lives have been risked. The dealers told me it was a mistake and the car should never have been sold as it was unfit for the road.” To compensate Willis of this huge mistake, he was given a BMW 330d as a replacement and a couple of other services, which he is satisfied with the result.
