Making its mark in the world as the maker of cars that weighs next to nothing and handles like a charm, Lotus has long taught us that you do not really need mega horsepower to have fun. And to commemorate one of the cars that have long stayed in their line-up, Lotus is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Elise with a special edition model.

It is called the “Lotus Elise 20th Anniversary Special Edition” and if you look it up in the line-up, it sits nicely between the Elise S Club Racer (896kg) and the Elise S (924kg). However, those three still share the same 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that pushes out 217-horsepower. That means zerotohundred gets dealt in 4.6 seconds and has a 237km/h top speed.

Compared to the Elise S, the 20th Anniversary is 10kg less thanks to the lighter matte black forged wheels. It also gets a centre console painted in body colour, sports seats covered in Alcantara or leather with colour-coded stitching, and a Sport Mode that increases the throttle response.

The car is offered in Blue, Green and Silver and parts like the rear diffuser, wing mirrors, roll hoop cover and rear transom finished in matte black. With all the additional parts and extra touches like the 20th Anniversary decals, Lotus said that all of them “amounts to £5,150 worth of extra value, for only £2,700 more than the standard Elise S (£37,200) (RM 203,829)”.
