Infiniti officially shelves the exciting Q50 Eau Rouge

When Infiniti first unveiled the Q50 Eau Rouge, needless to say that we were pretty excited as this huge saloon is more than just a looker from the outside. Boasting an impressive 3.8-liter twin turbocharged V6 engine lifted up from the mighty Nissan GTR, the Q50 Eau Rouge could potentially be a very worthy rival to cars like the Mercedes C63 and BMW M5.

Unfortunately such a day will not take place as there is also a reason why we are not hearing much of the Q50 Eau Rouge lately. It seems that for a number of circumstances, Infiniti had decided that the Q50 Eau Rouge is not really a worthy investment and had pulled the plug from the project.

“It was just too costly. That was it. It is always a matter of balance of cost versus benefit, and we decided to reign in our costs,” said Infiniti Europe vice president Francois Goupil de Bouille to Car Magazine. He also added later on that the sales estimate for the model simply made it unrealistic to produce.

This is quite a bad news as the Q50 Eau Rouge might be showing more potential if it was further developed. While the one they had made did house a GTR engine underneath the hood, the absence of a twin clutch transmission and a GTR AWD system did not really allow the Q50 Eau Rouge to properly nail down the 560-horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque on the tarmac.
