Devel shows off their quad-turbo V16 engine delivering 4,515HP on the dyno!

Let us take some time out and take a trip in the time machine to visit a car that we still think is just a figment of a wild imagination. Remember the Devel Sixteen? If some of you do not, it is a car unveiled at the Dubai Motor Show back in 2013 and while it does have the looks to turn heads, it is not why we are calling this creation something from the pages of ‘Star Wars’.

Looking like a mixture between the Pagani Zonda and Lamborghini’s Veneno, Devel claims that their afterburner exhausts-equipped Sixteen has 5,000-horsepower generated from the massive quad-turbocharged 7.2-liter V16 power plant. Zerotohundred takes only 1.8 seconds, and it has a top speed that dwarfs the Veyron by a mile; 560 km/h.

Now, Bugatti had gone through great lengths to have the Veyron to run in the 400km/h range and although Hennessey managed to beat the Veyron, it is still very closely matched. But Devel has set to silence the critiques and disbelievers as they recently released a video showing the V16 running on the dyno.

Created by Steve Morris Engines, the engine in the video has a displacement of 12.3-liters and is boosted by four 81mm turbochargers. The engine also features a billet block and camshaft as well as titanium valves.

On the dyno, the engine recorded 4,515-horsepower at 6,900rpm at 36psi of boost, while the torque figure is something to be look after as well at 3,519 lb-ft at 6,600rpm. The boost was then dropped to 20psi and the engine pushed out 3,006-horsepower, three times more than what you will get from a Bugatti Veyron.

Impressive? Definitely. But until the actual car actually hits the tarmac and does the figures it claimed to deliver, we are not putting much hope on this since the engine is not the only thing that matters in achieving the 560km/h top speed they claimed earlier on.
