Since BMW is set in phasing out the Z4 GT3 race car from GT competition, they have now started testing the new M6 GT3 race car which is scheduled to make its race debut in 2016. Developed to comply with GT3 specifications, they will also be making other versions for the GTE and GTD categories of the World Endurance Championship and United SportsCar Championship.

And after announcing the car back in October last year, BMW has started testing a prototype of the M6 GT3 at their test track in Dingolfing, Germany. Driving the car is works driver Jorg Muller, who had competed for BMW in a number of races like the American Le Mans Series, World Touring Car Championship and also the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“It is a fantastic moment when you walk into the garage and see this stunningly beautiful car. A roll-out is obviously just an initial performance test but, on the whole, everything was very good and we had no problems,” said Muller after the initial session.

In turning the road-going M6 into a race car, it now has a significantly wide track, an array of aerodynamic mods to increase downforce and lighter kerb weight. Also added into the car is an FIA-approved safety cell.
