With the emergence of the three hypercars from the three famous marques in the supercar realm, everyone has been waiting for the day when someone will actually take them for a head-to-head showdown. Autocar managed to get the McLaren P1 and the Porsche 918 Spyder for a head-on drag challenge, but unfortunately they were unable to secure a Ferrari LaFerrari for this reason.
So their version of a solution is to replace the LaFerrari with something red, powerful, and preferably Italian; which has somehow led them to the Ducati 1199 Superleggera. While some might argue that this is nothing close to a hypercar (or even a car!), it will nevertheless provide an interesting insight on how a superbike could fair against these lightning-fast four-wheeled machines.
We are aware that the McLaren P1 is not to be underestimated with its 903-brake horsepower output and although the 918 has a lower output of 875-brake horsepower, it has all-wheel drive which will help considerably in getting off the line. The Ducati 1199 Superleggera however only has an output of “over 200-brake horsepower” and while that does not sound like a lot, one should remember that the bike only weighs 152kg, giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 1315-brake horsepower per tonne.
