VW Confirms a new All-Wheel Drive Polo R for Production?

It seems that Volkswagen’s new Golf R will soon receive a little brother as an R version of the Polo has been confirmed to reach the production lines. Achieving great success at the World Rally Championship, Sebastien Ogier had shown the world that the Polo R WRC car that he piloted was no pushover, grabbing the title in their first full year in 2013.

This long-rumoured Polo R is finally confirmed after Audi had developed an all-wheel drive version of the A1, which will take shape as the S1 later at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The Polo R will feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine developing 250bhp mated to a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Zerotohundred is said to be in the region of less than six seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h.

VW had already came out with a meaner Polo in the form of the Polo R WRC special edition, but the car only came with 220-horsepower and front-wheel drive. The car was also limited to only 2,500 units.
