There is no hiding that the development of the Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ are closely related, mainly because the two automakers did collaborate in the making this FR machine. However, with senior Toyota engineer Tetsuya Tada himself saying that it was possible for Toyota to seek BWM’s assistance in developing the next-gen 86, it has led to speculations that there might not be a second generation BRZ in the future.

But these speculations can be quickly squashed as response on this matter came from the President of Subaru’s parent company Fuji Heavy Industry, Yasuyuki Yoshinaga himself, telling Automotive News that “it’s not going to be just one generation”. They have in fact pledged that the second generation BRZ will appear, and it will still be made in collaboration with Toyota as it is not viable for them to do it all by themselves.

Like the Toyota 86, the Subaru BRZ is powered by a 2.0-liter boxer engine pushing out about 200-horsepower. Sending the power to the rear, both platforms have made numerous appearances on the motorsports scene, mainly in drift competitions all over the world.
