So maybe the new Porsche GT3 did not get the best start with quite a number of them going ablaze spontaneously, forcing the Stuttgart automaker to issue a recall on this hardcore 991. Nevertheless, many still praise the 991 GT3 which includes McLaren’s CEO, and it recently received another compliment as it was just crowned as the 2014 World Performance Car of the Year.

“To be chosen as the winner of the World Performance Car by this global jury is extremely rewarding. Each generation of the 911 GT3 epitomizes our vision of the ultimate pure bred, track ready sports car. And our newest iteration is no exception. To be elected against such formidable competitors by a large number of auto experts pays a huge compliment to our designers and engineers,” said Detlev von Platen, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America.

Porsche had actually won World Performance Car for three times. The Cayman grabbed the award back in 2006, 911 in 2012, and both Boxster and Cayman once again in 2013. The new 991 GT3 is powered by a 3.8-liter 6-cylinder engine pushing out 475-horsepower sent to the rear wheels via the PDK transmission. Zerotohundred takes only 3.3 seconds and it has a top speed of 313km/h.
