The wait for the new NSX to actually hit the streets is a long one, and things have not been that well with a little fiery incident that claimed one of the prototype at the Nurburgring. But at least we know that they guys from Acura are working day and night to make the NSX as great as it gets, especially when they are aiming to match the performance of the Ferrari 458 Italia.

“We have to achieve the type of acceleration that the customer is achieving with the Ferrari. More importantly we have to achieve this every day and also at the Nurburgring,”said chief engineer Ted Klaus to What Car?. This means that the new NSX will have to do a zerotohundred in 3.3 seconds or faster, with a top speed of around 325km/h.

Despite such a high benchmark, Acura also would not want the NSX to be priced too high that only those who could afford exotic machines could buy it. As for the pricing, Klaus said that Acura is aiming to put the NSX within the range of the Audi R8 which puts it around USD 115,900 – USD 175,100 (RM 376,715 – RM 569,136).

The new Acura NSX features a new hybrid system called the Sport Hybrid Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive System (Sport Hybrid SH-AWD). The twin-turbocharged V6 engine is assisted by an electric motor to power the rear wheels, while two more electric motors power the front. The electric motors are fed by a lithium-ion battery mounted low in the car and are recharged with regenerative braking.
