The Lotus Exige S now comes with an automatic transmission!

Being more like a go-kart for the streets, the Lotus lineup has always been attracting enthusiasts who wanted a small and nimble machine to have fun with either on the roads or the track. And serious cars like the Exige S will usually come with only a manual transmission, which is also the reason why some are not opting this great car as their choice.

To those who are not that enthusiastic in operating a stick shifter but would like to own a Lotus, then this is good news for you. Lotus has just announced the availability of an automatic transmission for both their Exige s and the Exige S Roadster. Requiring a premium of £2000 (RM 10,530) over ther manual variant, the auto coupe will be priced at £56,500 (RM 297,488) while the Roadster with a price tag of £57,500 (RM 302,754).

“By introducing a paddle-shifted automatic, we have expanded the Exige product range to make it more accessible to customers worldwide. Now, customers who are more accustomed to two pedals and automatic transmission can enjoy the unbelievable performance and handling of the Exige S without compromise,” said the Lotus boss, Jean-Marc Gales.

The automatic gearbox sourced from Toyota is the same six-speed torque-convertor-based unit that is used in the automatic Evora ‘IPS’, except that it has been tailored to fit the Exige S. worry not about any loss of speed as Lotus states that the new car will “exceed the manual variant in performance”.
