Scooped: Porsche seem serious about a Cayman GT3 / GT4 for 2015

Just yesterday, Road & Track scooped what could be the first GT3 outside the 911 family. Is Porsche really planning to release a circuit-centric Cayman GT3? Judging from these pictures by KGP, practically every non standard part on the Cayman suggest that the rumour could be true.

First up, there’s the dramatic front bumper with integrated signature air outlet vents at the top just before the bootlid, commonly seen on the GT3 cars. Just like the 911 GT3, this spied Cayman retains the wheel arches like how the non RS always had the narrow-body.

There’s also the rear wing, looking every bit a race car, mounted on the rear boot that features a duck tail spoiler, also another GT3 feature. There’s also the brakes, bringing this wild scoop just a little closer to reality.

Rumour has it that it’ll either borrow credibility from it’s older brother and be endowed with a GT3 badge or even represent a completely new model, e.g.: Cayman GT4. Either way, we are stoked by the whole idea. The Cayman has always been Porsche’s best handling flat-four coupe and if this mid engined GT3 really takes off, Porsche enthusiasts around the globe will surely rejoice!
001PorscheCaymanGT3Spy-mdThe big quesion is, will this extreme Cayman be just another watered down version 911 GT3 or will it be Porsche’s best mid-engined flat four track car? Now that the current road going 991 GT3 will only come with the PDK box. We certainly hope this’ll turn out to be a real Cayman GT3 and perhaps be conservatively specced to something to the tune of 415hp 3.6L flat four and 7-speed manual!006PorscheCaymanGT3Spy-md
