Nissan IDx Could Merge With Nissan Z!

The Nissan IDx concept was introduced to public back in the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, and was well received indeed. Well it seems that, the supposed successor to the Nissan 370Z could very well merge with the Nissan IDx concept, becoming a single car.

According to Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President of Nissan Motor Co, Nissan can only justify having two sports cars in their lineup, with the Nissan Z and the Nissan GT-R occupying both slots. The Nissan 370Z successor would be merged with the Nissan IDx concept because the Nissan 370Z is no longer an affordable sports car like it was originally intended to. Nakamura-san said, “The Z is the affordable sports car, but the current Z has become a little bit more than affordable,”. Not surprising, since the introduction of the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ twin, more pressure has been applied to Nissan to come out with an affordable sports car.

By combining the essence of the Nissan Z and the Nissan IDx concept, Nissan can bring the new sports car’s price down to a much more affordable level, while still being able to provide the joy in driving.

Nakamura-san also added, “We want to keep a very high end super performance sports car; and Z or IDx—whichever—a more affordable, approachable sports car.”
