Although Peugeot’s departure from the 24 Hours of Le Mans had upset a lot of fans in the endurance scene, we are slowly blessed with the entries like Toyota and Porsche, giving chase to the dominating Four Rings. But it seems that the battle will soon intensify in 2015 as the next automaker to join in this gruelling race in none other than Nissan.

Soon to join the LMP1 category of the FIA World Endurance Championship, it is no secret that their main objective is to win the world’s most important endurance race; the 24 Hours of Le Mans. And the machines lined up to accomplish such mission come in the form of two prototypes with the name “GT-R LM Nismo”, as a tribute to Nissan’s flagship road car. Now unlike the route that their rivals are taking, Nissan is taking a different approach.

“We want to win in a very different way to that of our rivals. We won’t be turning up in a vehicle which is basically another hybrid that looks like another Porsche, Audi or Toyota – they all look the same to me – our intention is to do something that is a little bit different,” said Andy Palmer, the Chief Planning Office & Executive Vice-President for Nissan.

“Believe me, this is the car that will go down in the annals of time and be one of those cars which will be long remembered, not only for the fact that it will have won Le Mans but also that it reset the real meaning of Nismo as a link between success on the track and success on the road,” said Palmer confidently.

Nissan has yet to announce the drivers for their two GT-R LM Nismos, but they said that they will come from both inside and outside of the Nissan family. The 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans is already going to be exciting with the return of Porsche, but it looks like 2015 is going to be even better!
