First there was the MP4-12C, and then there was the feistier 650S, and not to forget the 625 that came later on for the Asian market which is basically a 12C with a 650S face. And now, more light are being shed on McLaren’s soon-to-come supercar that will sit directly below the 650S, reportedly being named as the P13.

But apparently the P13 designation is just its internal call sign as McLaren had just revealed that their new entry-level model will be called the ‘Sports Series’. The car is expected to make its global debut in the second quarter of 2015, so it will probably appear at the New York or Shanghai Motor Show.

“The McLaren Sports Series will be a pure McLaren, building on the credentials of the McLaren P1 and 650S, bringing Formula 1 technologies and know-how to a new segment for the brand. It will feature a carbon-fiber chassis and mid-mounted V8 engine,” quoted McLaren.

This new Sports Series will put cars like the Porsche 911 Turbo, Audi R8 V10 and the Mercedes-AMG GT in their sights as rivals.
