When the McLaren MP4-12C made its debut, everyone was labelling it as the Italia-killer – in which it did. Then again, this does not mean that they will be giving their full attention to the Prancing Horse as there is another brand that impresses them the most. With the P13 still in the works, Porsche is what the guys at McLaren Automotive are aiming at.
In a recent interview by PistonHeads with McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt, he revealed that they have always been putting Porsche in their sights. “Porsche is the brand we have the most conquest from. People who know and understand Porsche can relate to what we do in terms of technology.”
That is not the only thing that the CEO revealed as he also expressed his deep admiration towards the new GT3, in which McLaren had actually bought one! Then again, they did have to give it back to Porsche to get the engine replaced.
“The GT3 is one of the most impressive new cars I’ve driven. I was genuinely astonished at how accomplished that car is,” said Flewitt.
Since the P13 is aimed to be the rival of the 911, Flewitt also shared that it will cost somewhere around £120,000 (RM 648,960) and will pack slightly less technology than the 650 S, but using the modified version of the car’s 75kg carbon fiber tub. Although it will not be a 2+2, it will somehow be more practical.
